First determine whether your CI test command is still running, the Happo integration has not finished collecting or submitting captures, or Happo has accepted the work but a worker request is delayed. Use the active CI step, the Happo run, and worker logs to choose the right fix.
Find which part of the screenshot flow is still running
Happo describes its flow as code pushed, CI, screenshot capture, then baseline comparison. Start with the CI output and the linked Happo run or report rather than assuming the screenshot service itself is at fault. Happo

- Your test command is still active: investigate the test process, its own waits, and whether it exits normally.
- The Happo integration is still collecting or submitting captures: check that you are using the documented invocation for your integration and current package instructions.
- Happo accepted the work, but a worker request is delayed or incomplete: inspect the run and worker logs for requests, blocked hosts, and missing resources.
These are different failure points. A long-running test process is not the same problem as a completed test whose browser could not load an asset, and a screenshot diff in a finished report is not the same as a build that never completes.

Happo’s integration path varies by workflow, including Storybook, Playwright, Cypress, and pages. Check the current guide for the integration in your repository and compare its command with the active CI step.

Playwright
Happo’s Playwright guide documents wrapping the test command like this:
npx happo-e2e -- npx playwright testThe wrapper combines screenshots into one job and logs a URL when the process exits. If a Playwright job appears stuck, confirm that the wrapper is present, the command is actually reaching its end, and CI has not left a child process running. Storybook, Cypress, and pages workflows
Use the guide for the integration you actually run; commands and setup are not interchangeable. Happo’s current repository says older integration packages were merged into happo, so do not blindly copy a package name from an older guide. Compare your installed package versions with current documentation before changing dependencies. Happo repository

Happo announced the allowedHostnames option on September 23, 2026. It can permit or block hostnames requested during snapshots and was off by default when announced. First confirm that the option is available and enabled in your version; its existence alone does not explain a stalled run. - Open the relevant Happo run and its worker logs.
- Look for a blocked request corresponding to the tested page, an API, a font, or an image that the screenshot needs.
- If the hostname control is enabled, allow only the required hosts for the run. In a pages integration, Happo explicitly says the tested page hostnames must be allowed.
- Run the capture again and confirm in the logs that the needed requests are no longer blocked.
A blocked resource can produce a screenshot with missing content; check the request evidence before attributing the symptom to hostname filtering.
Check application readiness, fonts, and motion
Happo says its documented Storybook and Cypress workflows automatically silence animations and wait for asynchronous assets and fonts. That helps with common rendering noise, but it does not establish that every application-specific data fetch or external request has completed. Happo Storybook guide Happo Cypress guide

- Check the app’s own readiness conditions for data or page state that must be present before capture.
- Review worker logs for slow, failed, or blocked external requests.
- Compare the affected screenshot with the run’s other captures: a single missing resource may point to a page or dependency, while a process that never exits points earlier in the flow.
Use screenshot retry only for a completed report
If the report completed and one screenshot has a spurious diff, Happo’s single-screenshot retry feature can regenerate that screenshot from the report. An older Happo article updated September 17, 2025 lists minimum versions of happo.io v9.1.0, happo-plugin-storybook v4.1.0, and happo-static v1.0.0. Verify the current package instructions before relying on those version requirements. This feature is not documented as a way to unstick an incomplete build. Happo single-screenshot retry article

If CI output and Happo run or worker logs do not reveal whether the process, integration, or a worker request is responsible, contact Happo support with concrete evidence: the run link, exact failing CI step, integration type, package versions, and relevant log excerpts. No. The message does not distinguish a still-running CI command, unfinished integration work, or delayed worker requests. The CI step and run logs are needed to identify the failure point.
