Where Halide stands out for focusing
Halide highlights gesture-based manual focus, focus peaking, and a focus loupe. Its official product page says: “Halide not only offers easy, gesture-based manual focus, but also powerful tools to help nail a sharp shot like focus peaking and a new focus loupe.” These are useful distinctions in its published control set, especially if you want visual aids while setting focus. They do not establish that Halide is objectively easier or that it focuses more accurately than ProCamera.

Both apps cover the core manual settings
Both document control over shutter or exposure time, ISO, manual focus, and white balance. ProCamera’s feature page specifies white-balance temperature and tint and lists gray-card calibration; Halide lists custom white balance. For a decision focused on a single control, such as ISO or white balance, the feature descriptions do not make one a universal winner. Compare the current interface and confirm the relevant setting is supported on your iPhone.
Check iPhone compatibility and purchase terms
ProCamera’s U.S. App Store listing, accessed October 4, 2026, says 48-megapixel photos are supported on iPhone 14 Pro and later, and Camera Control Button support is available on iPhone 16 and later. The developer’s feature site had release posts for v26.3 and v27.0 in September 2026; its v27.0 post discusses variable-aperture control on iPhone 18 Pro. These are device- and version-sensitive claims, so check the current listing for your exact model rather than assuming every advertised feature applies to every iPhone.

Which app should you choose?
- Choose ProCamera if selectable Auto, Semi-Auto, and full Manual modes, shutter- or ISO-priority operation, an enumerated range of photo formats, or documented manual video controls match your workflow. Verify device support and whether the feature requires ProCamera Up.
- Choose Halide if its gesture-led approach and explicit focus aids—particularly the loupe alongside focus peaking—are the features you value most.
- If you mainly need one manual setting, both apps document the core controls. Compare the current interface, hardware compatibility, and plan terms instead of treating the feature list as proof of a universal winner.
Neither app can be called universally easier to use or better at producing photos on the evidence described here; no direct comparative testing is established.
