What Halide 3.2 changes
Halide’s App Store release notes say version 3.2 supports the adjustable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro. Apple describes the phone’s 48MP Fusion Main camera as having a variable aperture, meaning the lens opening physically changes rather than being simulated by software.

According to MacRumors’ report on Halide 3.2, Halide removes the native Camera app’s four-choice selection limit: users can select any f-stop within the hardware range. The report gives that range as ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0; this numeric range is secondary reporting, not a figure established in Apple’s announcement.
Two exposure workflows
- Aperture Priority: You choose the aperture, while Halide handles shutter speed and ISO.
- Manual: You control aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
These modes offer distinct ways to manage exposure; they do not establish that one camera app is universally better. Halide 3.2 also reportedly adds Dawn and Quicksilver film simulations and a 16:9 shooting mode.

Halide 3.2 versus Apple Camera
Apple’s Camera app already supports manual aperture adjustment on iPhone 18 Pro. Apple describes four selectable aperture settings, and its announcement gives examples including ƒ/1.8 and ƒ/4. The difference reported for Halide is the finer choice of f-stop and its explicit Aperture Priority and Manual workflows—not that Apple lacks manual aperture control.

If four straightforward choices suit your shooting, Apple Camera provides that control. If you want more aperture increments or prefer to set aperture while the app manages other exposure values, Halide’s reported modes may be useful. This is a comparison of documented controls, not a hands-on assessment.

Which iPhones can use Halide aperture control?
The adjustable-aperture feature depends on the physical variable-aperture main camera. Apple identifies that camera on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max; Halide’s App Store note specifically names iPhone 18 Pro support. The feature therefore should not be assumed to work on older iPhones merely because they can run Halide. This hardware limitation concerns aperture control, not every feature in the Halide app.
Availability and price
Halide Mark III 3.2 is the relevant app version. MacRumors listed a $69.99 one-time purchase or a $19.99 annual subscription when it reported the update; those figures may vary by market and date, so check the App Store listing for current local pricing. Apple’s separate Final Cut Camera app version 2.4 also supports variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro and offers aperture-priority and shutter-priority recording modes, but those are video-app features, not Halide features.
