ASUS describes it in manuals for Xonar audio cards, where it was intended to support EAX and DirectSound 3D game extensions. For graphics-card tuning, ASUS documents a separate utility called GPU Tweak III.
What is ASUS GX Mode?
GX Mode is an audio feature described in ASUS Xonar sound-card manuals. The ASUS Xonar DX manual calls it “DirectSound 3D Game Extensions mode” and says it supports EAX and DirectSound 3D hardware extensions for DirectX/DirectSound3D games on Windows Vista and XP. The Xonar DX manual presents that as the feature’s intended historical context, not as a guarantee of support on current Windows versions.

The Xonar DG SI manual describes the same purpose for DirectX/DirectSound3D games on Windows 7 and XP. These operating-system references document the legacy context of the manual; they do not establish present-day driver compatibility.

ASUS’s GPU Tweak III documentation describes a desktop graphics-card utility for adjusting parameters such as overclocking, voltage, and fan control. It lists Default, Overclocking, Quiet, and Custom modes, but does not identify GX Mode as a GPU setting. The similar-sounding “mode” label should not be taken to mean GX Mode changes a graphics card’s performance, fan behavior, or voltage.
#1 Best Overall
- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
Which ASUS card has GX Mode?
The manuals reviewed identify the ASUS Xonar DX and Xonar DG SI audio cards as models with GX Mode. These are sound cards, not graphics cards. The manuals’ feature descriptions do not establish current stock, modern driver support, or whether either model will work with a particular current PC and operating system.
If you are considering a used or otherwise available Xonar card specifically for GX Mode, check the exact model, its driver availability, and compatibility with your Windows version before buying. A generic ASUS graphics card or a current GPU Tweak III profile is not documented as a substitute.

What about Hi-Fi mode?
The Xonar DG SI manual also lists Hi-Fi mode and characterizes it as clearing effects to preserve the original digital data and analog output quality. That is a separate audio-card mode; it does not turn GX Mode into a graphics feature.
