GTA V separates its story protagonists from its online avatar
Story mode: three authored characters
GTA V’s single-player story follows Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. They are authored protagonists, not a player-created character: you can switch between them using the game’s character-switching mechanic, but that is not the same as building an avatar’s appearance. The GTA V game manual describes the three playable protagonists and switching mechanic.

GTA Online: a player-created character
GTA Online is a separate system. Rockstar Support says players on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions can change their character’s heritage, features, appearance, and apparel for a fee through the Style section of the Interaction Menu. Gender cannot be changed after the character is initially created. These details are specific to the versions named in Rockstar’s support guidance, updated April 20, 2024; they should not be assumed to describe every version’s menus or rules.

What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA VI clothing and customization
Rockstar identifies Jason and Lucia as GTA VI’s story leads and describes the game as a single-player experience. Its store listing names a Stock 305 Clothing Store and Sara’s Unisex Salon among game-related content. The pre-order announcement also mentions apparel as part of the Ultimate Edition.

These references confirm clothing- and salon-related content, but they do not establish the gameplay function or customization scope of those locations and items. Can you change your character’s clothes in GTA V?

How many clothing options will GTA VI have?
No verified GTA VI clothing total is established by the official material cited here. Rockstar’s historical GTA Online update notes say that “Hundreds of new clothing items” were added in that update, but this describes one past addition, not the current GTA Online catalog and not a GTA VI count. Do not treat claims of thousands of GTA VI options as confirmed without an official source.
Platforms and release timing
Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 announcement lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. The date is a future listing as of October 4, 2026, so check Rockstar’s current store page for any changes. The PS5 listing is a code-in-box version containing a download code, not a disc.
