Rockstar has confirmed GTA VI’s named cast, but not Phil Cassidy. A report by Meristation identifies a figure in Trailer 2 as Cassidy; that is a visual identification by the outlet, not a character confirmation from Rockstar. The distinction matters because a cameo or resemblance does not prove that events from an earlier GTA continuity carry over.
What Rockstar has confirmed about GTA VI’s cast
Rockstar’s official synopsis sets Grand Theft Auto VI in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. It follows Jason and Lucia, partners whose criminal activity draws them into a conspiracy across the state. Rockstar’s synopsis says, “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them.” Rockstar’s official GTA VI page presents that story context.

Rockstar’s official character profiles name Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, as well as Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy), Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder. The profiles establish these people as part of GTA VI’s cast; they do not label them as returning characters from earlier games.

Meristation identifies a figure seen at about 2:09 in Trailer 2 as Phil Cassidy, a character associated with GTA III, Vice City, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City Stories. That is a reported visual identification, not a name Rockstar has confirmed in the official GTA VI character profiles. The clearest wording is that a figure in the trailer has been identified by Meristation as Cassidy.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Meristation describes the apparent figure in connection with an arms shop and television advertisements, but the report does not establish the character’s importance to the plot. A brief visual appearance, even if the identification is correct, does not show whether the character has a speaking role or is central to the story. Read Meristation’s report for its identification and qualifications.
Would this be the same Phil Cassidy from the older games?
Not necessarily. Meristation notes that GTA’s 3D-era and HD-era continuities differ, and frames the apparent appearance as a possible reinterpretation or homage rather than proof that the earlier version’s story continues unchanged. Rockstar has not issued a specific canon ruling about Cassidy in the material covered by its official profiles.

- Experience the world of Grand Theft Auto V like never before with the power of the PlayStation 4.
- Explore the City of Los Santos, the countryside and even the ocean.

- Play golf, tennis, see a film or call someone and just hang out.
So “Phil Cassidy is in GTA 6” goes further than the official evidence. The cautious distinction is:

- Identified by reporting: the Trailer 2 figure Meristation reads as Phil Cassidy.
- Fan theory or speculation: claims about unconfirmed identities, plot connections, or the importance of a possible cameo.
Is GTA 6 connected to Vice City?
Yes: Rockstar places GTA VI in Vice City, within Leonida. That establishes the setting, not that every character or event from the earlier Vice City game belongs to the same continuity. The reported Cassidy appearance should therefore be treated separately from Rockstar’s confirmed story setting and roster.
