In Graveyard Keeper 2, the documented “tick” mechanic refers to crop growth: a garden bed checks its crops on a timer, and garden skill affects how much progress succeeds when that check occurs. The starting bed ticks every two minutes, according to the Graveyard Keeper 2 Wiki. That crop timer is separate from the in-game clock and from weekday-scheduled activities.
What a crop-growth tick does
A tick is a timed garden-bed check, not a unit of in-game time. The mechanics reference lists a two-minute interval for a starting garden bed. When the check happens, the bed’s skill is compared with the crop’s requirement; that relationship determines whether growth steps succeed. The reference does not establish that every other game system uses the same kind of tick.

Bed upgrades change the interval and skill
The wiki lists these bed values. It does not state a publication year for the figures.

| Garden bed | Skill | Time between ticks |
|---|---|---|
| Starting bed | 2 | 2 minutes |
| Garden Upgrade I | 4 | 1 minute 45 seconds |
| Garden Upgrade II | 8 | 1 minute 30 seconds |
These are two separate variables: upgrades can shorten the timer, while skill affects the result when the timer fires. The reference says sufficient skill can produce one or more successful growth steps per tick, up to three; below a crop’s requirement, a step may succeed only probabilistically. It does not describe low skill as lengthening the tick interval.

How crop ticks differ from the day clock
The Graveyard Keeper 2 Wiki lists 18.75 real-time seconds per in-game hour, about 3 minutes 45 seconds each for daytime and nighttime, and 7.5 minutes for a full in-game day. Since the in-game week has six days, a week lasts 45 real-time minutes at normal speed. These calendar durations are not the garden-bed tick interval.
What happens while you sleep
The same wiki says the world simulation runs 50 times faster during sleep. Crops, crafting, drying racks, the clock, and buff timers advance at that faster rate. Sleep accelerates ongoing processes rather than skipping them: the reference says scheduled, day-bound events still happen while the player sleeps. These figures come from a mechanics reference, not a primary developer manual or an independently verified game test.

Ticks are not the same as weekday activities
Some activities are scheduled by weekday rather than by a crop timer. In a Steam announcement from developer Lazy Bear Games, city battles are described as available on a designated weekday. The announcement also frames the sequel around rebuilding and defending the Town, with zombie battles and conveyor-belt factories. Those schedules provide broader game context; they do not define crop-growth ticks.
How to use the timing in practice
- For crop timing, use the garden bed’s tick interval—not the in-game hour—as the relevant timer.
- When growth does not match expectations, distinguish the interval from the bed-skill-versus-crop-requirement result; a tick can occur without every growth step succeeding.
- If you sleep to speed up a process, account for the fact that the world and scheduled events continue to advance during sleep.
The documented tick figures are from the Graveyard Keeper 2 Wiki’s Garden page; calendar and sleep figures are from its Time page and a second mechanics reference, Graveyard Keeper Wiki’s Time page. Those mechanics pages do not state publication years.
