To raise mastery in Graveyard Keeper 2, complete Inspiration tasks and spend the points you claim on a mastery perk for the skill you need, or upgrade the equipment used for that activity. The right route depends on your unlocked perks, available Faith and upgrade materials, and the target skill; check the current in-game descriptions before committing.
How to raise mastery with Inspirations and perks
Inspirations are tasks grouped into five categories. Completing the listed actions fills a task’s progress bar; when it is ready, claim the level. Some claims require Faith, which you accumulate by performing sermons in the Church. A claimed level contributes Inspiration Points, but those points do not raise mastery automatically: you must spend them on an applicable mastery perk.

- Open the Inspirations menu and choose a task associated with the skill you want to improve.
- Complete the number of actions shown for that task.
- Claim the level when the task is ready, meeting any Faith requirement shown in the game.
- Open the Perks menu and spend an available Inspiration Point on a mastery perk that applies to your target skill. Check its cost and prerequisites first.
Some perks add mastery to an overarching skill such as Building or Metallurgy. Confirm the perk’s current description rather than assuming every task or perk affects the same skill. The current guidance for this process comes from Prima Games’ Graveyard Keeper 2 guide, not developer documentation.

How equipment upgrades can help
The other route is to upgrade equipment that applies to the activity whose mastery you want to improve. The guide describes the Keeper’s tools progressing from rusty to bronze, iron, and steel, and also mentions upgrading the Basic Rod. These are examples, not a complete item-by-item list of mastery effects.

Before spending materials, identify which tool or piece of equipment is relevant to the activity. Check its in-game description, along with the materials and unlocks required for the upgrade. The available evidence does not establish exact bonuses for each item, so rely on the current displayed effect rather than assuming a particular upgrade grants a specific mastery amount.
Which route should you choose?

Choose Inspirations when you can complete a suitable task and have the points and prerequisites for a relevant perk. Choose an equipment upgrade when the applicable item and its requirements are available. These are the two routes identified in the available guide; the evidence does not establish a universally fastest method.

Check the current perk text after patches
Specific perks can be affected by updates. A Steam community news post reports a fix to Tempering Expert so that it correctly grants its Mastery bonus and unlocks Master Armor and sword crafting. If a perk behaves differently from older advice, consult its current in-game description and the latest Graveyard Keeper 2 Steam community news.
