To find your graphics card BIOS version, use the method that matches your GPU: NVIDIA’s nvidia-smi command can report a VBIOS value, Intel’s graphics driver report may show it as “Video BIOS” or “GOP,” and AMD SMI offers a conditional --vbios option on supported systems. A graphics BIOS version identifies firmware; it is different from the graphics driver version.
What the graphics card BIOS version means
Graphics card BIOS, VBIOS, and Video BIOS refer to firmware associated with a graphics card or integrated graphics controller. Intel defines VBIOS as the BIOS of either one. A driver version, by contrast, identifies the software installed to operate the graphics hardware.

The label and availability depend on the GPU, operating system, driver, and utility version. A value may not appear in every vendor interface or on every device.

nvidia-smi --query-gpu=gpu_name,gpu_bus_id,vbios_version --format=csv
Read the vbios_version column. The GPU name and bus ID identify which adapter the row describes, which is useful on systems with more than one GPU. NVIDIA documents nvidia-smi for standard driver-supported Linux distributions and 64-bit Windows, but the information available varies by device; some GeForce devices provide limited information. See NVIDIA’s nvidia-smi documentation and its useful nvidia-smi queries.
If the query is unavailable or does not return a VBIOS value, consult the GPU or computer maker’s support information for the exact model. NVIDIA Control Panel’s System Information page provides technical information about installed NVIDIA hardware and its driver, but NVIDIA’s help page does not guarantee that it includes a VBIOS field. It is therefore not a confirmed substitute for the command. NVIDIA Control Panel: Getting information about your program and computer.

Find the Video BIOS or GOP value on Intel graphics
Intel’s instructions use the graphics control panel’s Information Center. For the Windows 10-era Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, open Options and Support → Information Center. In newer directions, Intel describes the GOP value (Graphics Output Protocol) there as equivalent to the Video BIOS version. Older panel versions may display a field named Video BIOS version directly.

Check the VBIOS on AMD hardware
Use AMD SMI where supported
AMD SMI’s CLI guide documents --vbios for static GPU information. It returns video BIOS information “if available.” The CLI targets a GPU selected by index, bus-device-function address, or UUID; consult the AMD SMI CLI Tool – Usage Guide, release 8.5.0 for its usage details.
Do not assume the consumer control panel shows it
AMD’s consumer Windows instructions explain how to identify a graphics card’s model and subsystem vendor through Radeon Software, Catalyst Control Center, or Device Manager. Those directions do not establish that the screens display a VBIOS version. Check documentation for your specific software and hardware rather than assuming the firmware identifier is present. See AMD’s guide to identifying an AMD graphics card’s manufacturer and model.

Choose a method and interpret the result
- NVIDIA: Start with the documented
nvidia-smiquery; use the name and bus ID to match a result to an adapter. - Intel: Look in the graphics driver report’s Information Center; the value may be labeled Video BIOS or GOP, depending on the panel generation.
- AMD: Use AMD SMI’s
--vbiosoption if the utility and GPU support it. The consumer Windows identification guide does not confirm a VBIOS readout.
If a method returns no value, that does not by itself mean the firmware is missing or faulty. The documented tools have device and software support limits. For a machine-specific answer, identify the exact GPU or computer model and check its manufacturer’s documentation or support channel.

Reading the installed version is different from flashing new firmware. Intel says a VBIOS update is not needed when the computer has no graphics-related problem. For Intel systems, VBIOS updates arrive as part of a system BIOS update; Intel advises contacting the computer manufacturer for system-specific availability and instructions. Do not treat finding a version as a reason to download or flash a ROM.
