GrabzIt can convert either an HTML snippet or a webpage URL into a PNG image. For its REST API, send HTML to the conversion endpoint in a URL-encoded HTTP POST body; keep your application key on the server, not in browser code. This guide shows the REST pattern, a Node.js SDK option, format choices, and common implementation checks.
Choose the input and output
GrabzIt’s HTML-to-image service accepts an HTML snippet or a webpage. PNG is one of its supported formats; the overview also lists JPG, BMP, WEBP, TIFF, and SVG. GrabzIt recommends PNG when image quality is the priority and JPG when reducing file size is the priority. That is the vendor’s guidance, not a measured size or speed comparison. Convert HTML with the REST API
The REST documentation specifies an HTTP POST for HTML conversion. Send URL-encoded form fields, including your application key, the PNG format, and the HTML string. The capture is returned in the HTTP response. The endpoint and exact credential names should be taken from GrabzIt’s current REST documentation and account; the example below uses a placeholder endpoint and key rather than inventing either.

URL encoding matters: HTML contains characters such as ampersands, plus signs, and angle brackets that should not be sent as raw form data. cURL’s --data-urlencode handles that encoding for each field. Keep credentials server-side
GrabzIt’s REST documentation warns: “Do not use this API on the client side, it will expose your Application Key!” Keep the key in server-side configuration or a secrets manager, and have your application server make the request. The documentation recommends its JavaScript API for client-side use and says IP access can be restricted. GrabzIt REST API security guidance.
Use a language library instead
If your application already uses a GrabzIt library, its documented Node.js method is html_to_image(html, options). The PHP library documents an HTMLToImage method. A library can reduce low-level HTTP handling, but consult the documentation for the language you use: the examples do not establish that every option is identical across libraries.

Check the result and troubleshoot
- The returned file is not a PNG: Verify that the request’s
formatfield is set topng, and inspect the response before saving it with a.pngextension. - The request fails when HTML contains punctuation: Ensure the body is sent as
application/x-www-form-urlencodedand each value is URL-encoded. Use a form encoder rather than concatenating raw HTML into the request. - The key is rejected: Check that you are using the application key for the selected authentication method, and that the endpoint and field names match the current GrabzIt REST documentation. Never publish the key in client-side code.
- The image does not show the expected page: Confirm that you sent the intended input type—an HTML snippet or a webpage URL—and that your HTML itself contains the expected content. The cited API pages do not establish a performance guarantee or a particular capture time.
