To stop weather updates from the Google app without losing its other alerts, turn off the weather notification category in the Google app: tap your profile picture or initial, then go to Settings > Notifications and switch off the weather option. If the notification comes from a different app, such as Weather, use that app’s notification settings instead.
Turn off weather notifications from the Google app
- Open the Google app, identified by its multicolor G icon.
- Tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings, then Notifications.
- Find the weather category or the specific weather alert and turn it off. The exact category name can vary by app version and device.
Google Search Help says notification categories such as weather can be turned off individually. This leaves other Google app notifications enabled. See Google’s instructions for changing Google notifications on Android.

If you cannot find a weather category
Open Android’s Settings and search for Google or App notifications. You can also try Settings > Apps > Google > Notifications, then inspect the categories available on your phone. Android menus and category labels differ by device and software version, so use the notification’s own controls if the path does not match.

Choose the control that matches what you want to stop

Google Search Help documents individual category controls and the broader Android switch. For a single unwanted topic, open the Google app’s notification or interests controls and use the menu next to it; options may include turning off notifications for that topic or marking it “Not interested.” Some alerts expose a turn-off action directly on the notification. Use the Android app-level switch only if you want to stop all Google app notifications. It also silences other Google alerts, not only weather.

Check which app sent the notification
Press and hold the notification, or open your phone’s notification history if available, to identify the sending app. If it says Google, use the Google app steps above. If it says Weather, it may be the separate Pixel Weather app rather than the Google app. Open that app’s notification settings or find it under Android Settings > Apps and adjust its notifications. Google Play lists Weather as a separate Google LLC app, but the available source does not establish one universal settings path for it: Weather on Google Play.

Routine weather notifications from the Google app are not the same as Android wireless emergency alerts. Turning off Google’s weather category does not necessarily disable emergency warnings. If your goal is to change wireless emergency alerts, look in Android Settings for Safety & emergency > Wireless emergency alerts. Can location settings stop Google weather updates?
In the Google app, go to profile picture or initial > Settings > Notifications > Your notification settings and turn off Use current location to stop the app using your current area for some notifications. Google notes that saved home or work locations may still trigger location-based notifications, so this is not a reliable substitute for turning off the weather category.
