Google Wallet can now share boarding passes, which means you can send a traveler’s pass to someone else without screenshots or manual email attachments. Instead of copying QR codes around, you share the actual boarding pass entry tied to your Google account.
This update is especially useful for family trips, ride plans where someone else checks in, or last-minute travel changes when you need another person to have a valid pass in their own Wallet.

Below is a practical guide to using the feature, what to expect, and what to try when it doesn’t work.
What Changed: Sharing Boarding Passes in Google Wallet
In Google Wallet, boarding passes are treated like shareable items. When the airline supports it and the pass type is eligible, you can share the pass so the recipient can view it inside their own Google Wallet app.

Why Sharing Matters (and When It Doesn’t)
Faster, cleaner check-in for groups
If you’re traveling together, sharing keeps everyone on the same itinerary with less confusion about which document is current.
Less risky than screenshots
Shots of QR codes can expire or be visually altered, and they’re harder to control. Sharing through Wallet keeps the pass in a structured, auditable way.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Not every airline pass will be shareable
Even if Google Wallet supports sharing, airlines and pass providers decide which passes can be shared and whether updates propagate to the recipient.
Prerequisites and Requirements
- Google Wallet app: Install the latest version from the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iPhone/iPad).
- A boarding pass already added to Google Wallet: The pass must be present in your Wallet, not just in an email.
- Recipient with a Google account: The sharing flow targets a Google identity, not a random phone number-only workflow.
- Airline eligibility: Some airlines support shareable passes; others don’t or only support specific sharing methods.
If the share option doesn’t appear for a boarding pass, that’s usually the “eligibility” gate—not a mistake on your end.

- Open the Google Wallet app.
- On the main screen, find your boarding pass under upcoming trips.
- Tap the boarding pass to open it.
- Look for a Share option (often shown as a share icon, or under a More / overflow menu).
- Select the recipient method (commonly Send to contacts, or choose a contact/user from the share sheet).
- Confirm the share prompt.
- Have the recipient open their device and accept the shared pass when prompted.
iPhone and iPad (Google Wallet app)
The process is similar, but you’ll rely on the iOS share sheet UI more often.
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Open the relevant boarding pass.
- Tap Share or the More menu (three dots) if shown.
- Choose the recipient from the supported sharing options.
- Confirm sending.
- Ask the recipient to accept in their Google Wallet app.
How Sharing Works: What the Recipient Sees
Once accepted, the recipient gets their own copy of the boarding pass inside their Google Wallet. They can then display the QR code in-app at the gate or for scanning where supported.
In many cases, updates to the pass (like gate changes) may take some time to sync, and the recipient should refresh by reopening the pass close to departure.
Manage Shared Passes and Access
Google Wallet sharing is designed to be controlled from the sender side, but what you can revoke depends on how the airline and pass provider configured the sharing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhen available, management typically lives in one of these places:
- Google Wallet pass details: Open the pass and look for sharing/recipients controls.
- Google account activity: Some sharing flows show permissions or connected access.
If you need to remove access because of an itinerary change, do it as early as possible and confirm the recipient’s copy updates correctly.
Security and Privacy Considerations
- Send only to the right person: Boarding passes contain identifying details (name, flight info, seat/row).
- Confirm identity before sending: Use contact names you trust, or double-check the recipient email associated with their Google account.
- Avoid posting screenshots publicly: Even “temporary” screenshots can be reused.
- Consider cancellation windows: If you cancel or rebook, shared copies may not automatically represent the latest itinerary unless updates sync.
Limitations, Gotchas, and Edge Cases
No share option appears
This is the most common issue. If the pass can’t be shared, Google Wallet typically hides the Share control entirely.

Recipient doesn’t accept
Sharing may send an invite that the recipient must accept in their own Wallet. If they don’t see it, ask them to check notifications and Wallet updates.
Recommended Free Tools
Time-sensitive passes
Some passes change frequently (boarding time windows, gate assignments). If you share late, the recipient may still need to refresh their pass after sync.
Different terminal or multiple segments
For itineraries with multiple legs, ensure you’re sharing the correct boarding pass entry for the segment you mean.
Airline updates and reissued passes
If your airline reissues the pass (e.g., after a flight change), your Wallet may replace it. The recipient may need the updated version to scan correctly.
Troubleshooting: When Sharing Fails
1) Restart the sharing flow
Close Google Wallet completely and reopen the pass. Then try sharing again from the pass details page.
2) Update Google Wallet
On both devices, ensure the recipient and sender are on the latest Google Wallet build available for their app store.
3) Check internet connectivity
Sharing usually requires a successful sync. Switch to stable Wi‑Fi or LTE/5G and try again.

4) Verify the pass is eligible
If a share button/menu never appears for that pass, it’s likely not supported for that airline or pass format. Don’t keep retrying—use an alternative method (see below).
5) Confirm recipient identity
Make sure you’re sending to the correct Google account. A mismatched contact can produce a “sent but not received” scenario.
6) Have the recipient refresh their Wallet
Ask them to open Google Wallet, return to the main trips screen, and re-open the shared pass after a minute or two.

If the boarding pass doesn’t show a Share option, you still have workable options—just be mindful of expiration and gate scanning rules.
Forward the booking confirmation and have them add the pass
Send the airline confirmation email or booking reference so the recipient can add the pass directly to their own Wallet using the airline’s “Add to Google Wallet” flow.
Use the airline’s official pass transfer tools (if available)
Some airlines provide transfer, reissue, or “share with another traveler” workflows in their apps or websites. If present, it’s usually the cleanest option.

As a last resort: screen-share or verify at the gate
If sharing isn’t supported, screenshots can be risky. If you must, prefer the on-device pass display over static images, and confirm scanning works at the check-in counter before heading to the gate.

FAQs
Can I share a boarding pass to anyone (phone number only)?
Typically, sharing targets a Google identity (for example, a contact tied to a Google account). If your share UI only offers certain contacts, it’s probably following that identity model.
Will the recipient get seat and gate updates automatically?
Often, updates sync when the airline reissues the pass and Wallet refreshes. If the gate changes close to departure, the recipient should reopen the pass to ensure the latest data is displayed.
What if I shared the wrong boarding pass?
Try revoking/removing sharing if the option exists in pass details. If not, you’ll need to rely on airline reissue/correction and share the correct segment.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Does sharing work for every airline?
No. Airline and pass-provider support determines eligibility. If you don’t see a Share control on the pass, that’s usually the sign it isn’t supported for that ticket.
Bottom Line
Google Wallet’s boarding pass sharing cuts out the messy “screenshot and forward” workflow and keeps travelers’ passes inside the same app experience. If you see a Share option on your pass, use it and let the recipient accept in their own Google Wallet.
If the Share control isn’t available, assume the airline isn’t eligible and switch to an alternative like having the recipient add the pass themselves via the booking details.
