That convenience is only one disclosed use: Google also describes location processing for security when you add certain cards and, depending on your account settings, for receipt details. Location History and Wallet history are separate controls, so changing one should not be assumed to disable every location-related use.
Why does Google Wallet use your location?
Google says information about a device’s background location can help Wallet notify you where saved payment and loyalty cards are accepted. The idea is to surface a relevant card or place when it may be useful; this does not establish that Wallet continuously records every movement.

Google also describes location use for fraud prevention, security, and compliance when a user adds a new payment or transit card. Location may also be included in receipt details, depending on Google Account settings. These are distinct purposes from showing where a saved card can be used. Google’s explanation of how Google Pay keeps information private describes these uses.

Google’s help page states: “You can control when Google Pay or Google Wallet collects your Location History at any time.” The statement is specifically about Location History; it does not say this setting disables every location-related process described for Wallet, such as security checks during card setup. See Google’s instructions for finding, exporting, or deleting Google Pay and Wallet information.
Location History and Wallet history are different controls
Google’s newer Wallet history controls concern saving activity from Wallet and payments services, including transit-pass taps. Google says that saved activity can be used to maintain, measure, and improve its products, including ads. This is a different category from Location History, which Google describes as controlling when Pay or Wallet collects Location History.

| Control family | What Google describes it as covering | Availability or scope note |
|---|---|---|
| Google Account Location History | When Google Pay or Google Wallet collects Location History. | Managed through Google Account Activity controls; Google’s help describes this as a control for Location History, not a universal switch for all location uses. |
| Wallet history and personalization | Saved activity from Wallet and payments services, including transit-pass taps; Google says this information can support product maintenance, measurement, improvement, and ads. | Google says the settings are rolling out gradually in Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States. A user may not yet see the same controls. |
Google describes the rollout and settings on its Wallet data and privacy help page. Because the two controls have different purposes, changing Wallet history should not be treated as a substitute for reviewing Location History, or vice versa.
Does Google sell your Google Pay transaction history?
Google’s privacy help says Google Pay does not sell transaction history to other companies. It also notes that participation in another program may involve information sharing even if you opt out of the personalization setting described there. Read the qualifications in Google’s privacy explanation; the no-sale statement is not the same as a promise that no information is ever shared under other programs or for other disclosed purposes.

Google says transaction information may be available in the Wallet app and, in eligible markets, on the Wallet website. Other Google Pay transactions may be available through Google Account activity or payments.google.com. Its help page also explains export and deletion routes, while warning that some information may be retained for business or legal requirements or to provide essential services.
For the available routes and retention caveat, use Google’s current help for finding, exporting, or deleting Google Pay and Wallet information. Access can depend on the transaction type and market, so a transaction not appearing in one view does not by itself establish that no record exists elsewhere.
