Yes: Google TV Streamer (4K) has Ethernet, supports video output up to 4K HDR at 60 fps, and can serve as a Google Home Matter hub and Thread border router. Those capabilities depend on the rest of your setup: 4K needs compatible content and display equipment, app availability varies by country, and smart-home devices must support the relevant protocols.
Does Google TV Streamer have Ethernet?
Yes. Google lists an RJ45 Ethernet port rated at 1 Gbps, as well as dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. You can choose a wired connection during setup. Google’s specifications also mention a separate Ethernet power supply sold separately, so check the current product packaging and retailer listing if you plan to use Ethernet; do not assume the accessory is included. See Google’s Google TV Streamer specifications and setup requirements.

Can Google TV Streamer play 4K on my TV?
It can output up to 4K HDR at 60 frames per second, but that is a maximum capability, not a promise that every video will appear in 4K. The display, the content, and the connection path all need to support the resolution. A 1080p television displays up to 1080p. Google recommends a 4K TV for the best experience, and its requirements page says HDCP 2.2 is required for 4K content. Check the specifications of the HDMI input you intend to use, particularly on an older TV or a receiver between the Streamer and TV. Google documents these limits in its Google TV Streamer overview and device requirements.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhich HDR and audio formats does it support?
Google lists HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision video support, plus Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Atmos audio formats. A specific format is not guaranteed for every combination: delivery depends on the app and title, the display, and connected audio equipment. Google recommends HDMI 2.1 support on the TV and connected audio equipment for high-quality audio guidance. If the Streamer connects directly to the TV, Google says to connect the audio system to the TV’s eARC port.

What apps can I install on Google TV Streamer?
Google TV Streamer runs Android TV OS, with apps available through Google TV and Google Play. There is no permanent, universal app list: availability depends on country and language, and developers control whether their apps are offered and maintained. To check for a particular service, search for it on the device or browse the Apps tab. If it appears as an available app, select Install. Google explains the process in its app installation guide and notes that content and app availability can vary in its Google TV and Android TV overview.
Installing an app does not necessarily include access to its paid content; check whether the service requires a separate subscription. Removing a service from Google TV does not cancel that subscription.

Does Google TV Streamer work with Matter or Thread?
Yes. Google identifies the Streamer as a Matter hub and a Thread border router. These are related but distinct roles: Matter is a smart-home standard, while Thread is one network technology Matter devices can use. Matter devices may connect over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Thread. If your home uses Thread devices alongside Wi-Fi Matter devices, Google says you need a hub that also functions as a Thread border router. The Streamer is listed as one. See Google’s guidance on preparing a smart home for Matter.
What to check before buying a smart-home device
- Look for the Matter certification mark and confirm the device’s supported connection type—Wi-Fi or Thread—in the manufacturer’s current compatibility information.
- For Thread devices, make sure the Thread network is enabled. Google’s Thread setup instructions say setup requires the Google Home app, a Thread-enabled device, and current device firmware. You can check whether Thread is enabled in Google TV Streamer’s Network & Internet settings.
- Google says IPv6 must be enabled on the home network for Matter to work properly, including communication between Thread and Wi-Fi devices.
Being a Matter hub does not make every smart device compatible. Supported device types, firmware, and platform support vary; confirm them with the device maker and check for the Matter mark.

What do you need to set up Google TV Streamer?
Google lists the Streamer, voice remote, USB power cable, power supply, and two AAA alkaline batteries in the box. You also need an HDMI display, an electrical outlet, a Google Account, and a network connection through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The HDMI cable is sold separately; Google recommends an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1-certified cable for optimal performance. A 4K display is recommended, but another HDMI display resolution can work, with output limited to what the display supports. See Google’s box contents and setup requirements.
