If Google Search won’t load, shows no results, feels slow, or returns results that seem wrong, first check whether the problem follows your internet connection, the Google app, or your browser. Then check whether location, language, or personalization explains differences in results. Test the same query after each change so you can identify what actually helped.
Why is Google not working?
Start with a simple comparison: open another webpage, then try Google Search in a different browser or in the Google app. If other pages also fail, investigate the connection. If only one Google app or browser is affected, focus on that app or browser rather than changing network settings.

Check the connection first
Google’s Android troubleshooting guidance recommends checking Airplane mode, Wi-Fi or mobile data, signal strength, and whether a public Wi-Fi network requires a sign-in page. If other websites do not load, try another network; on a weak Wi-Fi connection, move closer to the router or try mobile data. If a personally owned router is connected but has no internet, restart it or contact your internet provider. These steps are Android guidance; device and network controls vary.

Retest Google after each change. If other sites work and Google still fails on more than one network or device, continue with the app or browser checks below.

Restart and update the Google app
If Search fails only in the Google app, close and reopen it, force-stop it if your device offers that option, and restart the device. Once connected, install any available Google app update and retry the same query. Menu names and update steps vary by device; Google provides current Android troubleshooting steps and iOS troubleshooting guidance.
Clear cache only after simpler checks
On Android, clearing an app’s cache removes temporary data. Clearing app data is a more significant step: it deletes the app’s data, including files and settings. Try cache first, and consider clearing app data only if restarting and updating have not helped and you are comfortable with that consequence. Follow the current instructions for your Android device or iPhone or iPad; exact controls differ.
Why is Google Search not showing results?
A blank page, a loading failure, and a search that completes but returns no useful matches are different problems. If other webpages also fail, return to the connection checks. If the issue occurs only in one browser, test that browser separately before changing the Google app.

Isolate a browser display problem
Google recommends using a supported, up-to-date browser for Search. Its browser troubleshooting sequence specifically addresses Google Images loading or display problems, so use it as a diagnostic—not as proof that every Search failure has the same cause.
- Open the affected page in a private or incognito window, then retry.
- If it works there, clear the browser’s cache and cookies, then test again.
- If it still fails, check whether an extension or toolbar is interfering and temporarily disable it for a test.
- Check that JavaScript is enabled, then reload and retest.
Change one thing at a time so you can see which step matters. See Google’s browser guidance for Google Images display and loading issues and its advice to upgrade your browser to use Search. Google does not state a minimum browser version in that guidance.
Why is Google so slow?
First compare Google with another website on the same device and network. If both are slow, the connection or device is a more likely place to investigate: check signal strength, try another network, and restart the device. If only Google is slow, compare the Google app with Search in a current supported browser. If one works normally, concentrate on the app or browser that is slow; if the problem persists across both, try another network or device.

Retest the same query after each change. This comparison can narrow down where the delay occurs, but it does not establish that Google is experiencing a widespread outage. The cited help guidance does not establish whether a live, broad outage is happening at any given moment.
Why are my Google search results different?
Different results do not automatically indicate a fault. Google says results can vary with factors including time, location, language, device, recent searches, personalization, and changes as results are rolled out across data centers. Personalization affects only some results, and search settings or labels may look different as Google updates its interface.
Check location and local intent
Look for the location shown on the results page. Google may estimate location from several sources, and browser location permissions can affect device location. For a local query, include the city or neighborhood you mean—for example, add “in Bristol” to a search for repair shops. Google explains how it determines and uses your location.

Compare personalized and non-personalized results
If a result is marked as personalized, use the “Try without” option when it appears to compare that query without personalization. It is a one-query comparison, not a change to your settings. Turning personalization off does not remove every contextual influence: location, language, device, and the query itself can still shape results. Google’s personalized Search results guidance explains the available controls; the settings interface may differ as it is updated.
Make comparisons fair
When comparing your results with another person’s, use the same query at roughly the same time and, if practical, compare on the same type of device and network. Then check location and personalization labels before concluding that one result set is broken. Those checks help separate a technical issue from ordinary contextual differences.

Make the query more specific
Begin with the main subject, then add descriptive terms likely to appear on the page you want. For a local answer, include a place name. If a broad query produces too many matches, add a distinguishing detail; if it produces none, remove a detail or try a more common phrase.

Use filters or Advanced Search
Choose a relevant result type—such as Web, Images, Maps, or News—when that filter is available. You can also use Advanced Search to narrow or broaden a query. Filter availability and order can change, so look for the capability rather than expecting a fixed layout. Google’s Search tips cover ways to refine queries.
How do I report a persistent Google Search problem?
If a specific Search result or feature remains broken after you have compared the app and browser, networks, and relevant location or personalization settings, send feedback from the result’s More menu using Feedback. Describe what happened, what you expected, and which query or feature was affected. Google says it may review feedback but cannot always reply, and feedback does not affect ranking.
