If a Google review QR code is not working, first check what happens after a phone scans it: does it fail to scan, open the wrong page, request Google sign-in, or open the correct profile where reviews are disabled? Those are different problems. To replace an uncertain code, use the current link and QR code in the Google Business Profile on a computer, then test the new code before printing it.
Identify where the review process breaks
Separate the problem into four checks: whether the code scans, whether it opens the intended business and review path, whether the reviewer is signed in, and whether reviews are available for that profile. A code can scan successfully even if its destination is outdated or incorrect.

- It will not scan: Check the code itself and the camera or QR reader.
- It opens an unexpected page: Compare the destination with the current review link for the correct Business Profile.
- It asks the reviewer to sign in: This can be a normal step in submitting a review.
- The right profile opens, but reviews are disabled: The issue may concern review availability for the profile, rather than the QR image.
Get a fresh review link and QR code from Google
- Open the business’s Google Business Profile in a computer browser.
- Select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews.
- Copy the review link or download the QR code provided there. Google says its review QR codes can be generated on a computer browser, not a mobile device. See Google’s instructions for creating a link or QR code for reviews.
If the existing code came from a third-party generator or an old print file, compare where it leads with the current Google link. Replace it with the code from the official workflow if the destination is wrong or uncertain.
Scan the code and check its destination
Use a phone camera or QR reader and inspect the page that opens. Confirm that it belongs to the intended business and takes the reviewer to the review path. If it opens only a general profile page, an unexpected destination, or another business’s listing, verify the correct review link before making a replacement.

This check distinguishes a scanning problem from a destination problem: a phone may read the code perfectly even though the link inside it is not the one you intended.
Treat Google sign-in as an account requirement
Google requires reviewers to be signed in to a Google Account to leave a review. A sign-in or account-creation page can therefore be an expected part of the process, not evidence that the QR code is broken. The account can use a non-Gmail email address. Test the flow without relying only on the owner’s account
A business owner testing their own link while signed in may not see the same review prompt a customer sees, according to a March 2023 Google Business Profile Community discussion. This is a community troubleshooting report, not a guarantee about what every owner will see. If the result is unclear, ask an independent person to inspect the flow. They should submit a review only if they have had a genuine experience with the business.

If the correct profile says reviews are disabled
If scanning works and the intended profile opens, but Google says posting reviews is disabled, regenerating or reprinting the QR code may not solve the problem. A 2024 Google Business Profile Community discussion describes this message and a product expert’s response that review availability can affect more than the QR route. Community posts do not establish why a particular profile has that status.
Check the profile directly and seek profile-specific help through Google Business Profile support. The available public guidance does not establish the cause for an individual listing.

Retest before replacing printed materials
Once a newly generated code opens the intended review page on a phone, replace outdated cards, signs, or other print files. Google recommends displaying the QR code in-store and also suggests sharing it on receipts, in thank-you emails, or at the end of a chat interaction. A countertop sign is optional: it can make a tested code easier to find, but it cannot repair a wrong link, bypass the sign-in requirement, or change whether reviews are available.

Ask for honest reviews, not positive ones
Google requires reviews to reflect genuine experiences. Do not offer free or discounted goods or services in exchange for posting, changing, or removing a review, and do not ask only for positive reviews. See Google’s guidance on requesting reviews and its Maps user-generated content policies.
