The claim seeks more than £1 billion in total damages, but no court has found Google liable, and no individual payout is established. The latest publicly displayed case information also gives conflicting trial dates.
What the claim alleges
Coll alleges that Google’s technical and contractual restrictions hindered competing ways to distribute Android apps and process payments. In the claim’s account, users were left to make app and in-app purchases through Google Play and Google’s billing system, where commissions could be as high as 30%. These are allegations, not findings that Google broke the law or that every purchase incurred a 30% charge. The claimant’s case overview describes the allegations; the Competition Appeal Tribunal’s summary of the related proceedings says the claims allege it was “impossible or impracticable” to make app and in-app purchases through alternatives. The Tribunal published that summary on 30 April 2025.

How much money is at stake?
The claimant’s FAQ says Coll seeks damages in excess of £1 billion for the class as a whole. That is the amount claimed, not a judgment, settlement, or estimate of what any one person might receive. The materials reviewed do not establish a likely individual payment or compensation date. See the claimant’s current FAQ for the stated claim and class information.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal’s 30 April 2025 judgment summary described the consumer class as around 19.5 million UK-domiciled consumer Android-device users. That is a class estimate, not a count of people confirmed to qualify for or receive compensation. The Tribunal summary is available here.

Who may be included
The claimant’s current materials describe a class period running from 1 October 2015 to 31 July 2026. The simplified outline below is not a substitute for the full class definition: eligibility also depends on purchase history, where a person was domiciled on the applicable date, and other exclusions. Check the claimant FAQ for the full definition and its date-specific conditions.
- Purchase: The qualifying purchase must be a paid app or digital content, service, or subscription within an app through the UK version of Google Play.
- Device: The purchase must have been made from an Android phone or tablet on which the Play Store was pre-installed.
- Dates and location: The overall period runs through 31 July 2026, but the FAQ ties domicile to the relevant purchase period and names 18 July 2022, 30 January 2026, or 31 July 2026 as applicable dates.
- Exclusions: Google apps are excluded, and the detailed definition contains further conditions. A purchase made outside the UK or a change of residence may affect eligibility.
Because the qualifying dates and purchase conditions are specific, do not rely on “I used an Android phone in the UK” as a complete eligibility test. The claimant’s FAQ explains how to review Play Store purchase history and check the store country.

What class members need to do now
The claimant FAQ says qualifying class members do not need to take action at this stage. It says that if compensation is secured, class members would need to come forward to claim a share under later instructions. It does not say that registration is currently required, and inclusion in the described class does not guarantee payment. The claimant FAQ gives its current instructions.
Where the case stands
The Competition Appeal Tribunal’s case page records a pre-trial review on 31 July 2026, but its displayed information gives two different trial schedules: the procedural narrative says a trial was listed to begin on 28 September 2026 for up to ten weeks, including a reading week; the events list displays a trial on 6 October 2026 for eight weeks. As of 4 October 2026, those dates do not establish a single confirmed start date. The Tribunal case page is the public docket.

The claimant’s document index lists a “Trial Timetable” dated 25 September 2026 and an order dated 2 October 2026, but the index alone does not show what those documents say. The claimant’s document index is here. The operative schedule should therefore be checked against the latest order rather than inferred from either date shown on the case page.
The reviewed case materials do not establish Google’s specific defence in Coll’s case. The allegations should not be treated as an admission or as a Tribunal decision on liability.

How this differs from the related proceedings
The cases concern overlapping Google Play issues, but they involve different claimants, alleged losses, and remedies. The Tribunal said they were case-managed together to coordinate overlapping evidence and reduce the risk of inconsistent outcomes; that coordination does not make their claims identical. The Tribunal’s joint case-management summary describes the proceedings.
