If those settings are correct, work through connection, storage, Android updates, date and time, and restart checks before clearing app data.
Check the Play Store’s auto-update setting
The global setting determines which apps can update automatically and whether downloads may use mobile data. In Play Store, tap your profile icon, then go to Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps. Choose the option that fits your data preference:

- Wi-Fi only: Updates can download when the device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Wi-Fi or mobile data: Updates can also download over a mobile connection, which may use your data allowance.
- Limited mobile data: Google says this option is available only to a limited group of users, so it may not appear for you.
Google documents these choices in its Android app-update guide. If your preference is Wi-Fi only, an app may wait until the device connects to Wi-Fi.

Enable automatic updates for the specific app
An app can have its own auto-update control. If one app is not updating while others do, check its individual setting:

- Open Google Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Manage apps and device > Manage.
- Select the app, then open its details page.
- Tap More and turn on Enable auto update.
The global preference and the app-level control both matter: a global network choice may still prevent an update from downloading under current conditions.
Check for a Google Account sign-in error
A sign-in problem with a Google Account on the device can prevent automatic app updates. Google states that “If an account on your device has a sign-in error, apps may not update automatically.” Check whether Play Store is prompting you to sign in or resolve an account issue, and address that prompt before continuing.

Install an update now while diagnosing the problem
To get an available update without waiting for automatic updates, open Play Store, tap your profile icon, and choose Manage apps and device. Review the available updates and tap Update beside an app or Update all. Google describes these manual controls in its Android app-update guide.
Check connection, storage, and device settings
If the settings and account look right, Google recommends basic checks for app-download and install problems. Try them before clearing data:

- Connection: Make sure the device has a strong internet connection. If updates are restricted to Wi-Fi, connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
- Free storage: Check that the device has enough available space. Low storage can stop downloads and installs.
- Android system updates: Check whether an Android update is available and install it if appropriate.
- Play Store restart: Close and reopen Google Play Store.
- Device restart: Restart the phone or tablet, then check Play Store again.
- Date and time: Verify that the date, time, and time zone are set correctly.

Clear Play Store cache or data only after basic checks
Google includes clearing Google Play Store’s cache and data among its troubleshooting steps. This is different from clearing Google Play services data: Play Store is the app marketplace, while Play services is a separate component used by apps and device functions.

Google advises trying other options before clearing Google Play services data. Clearing it may remove information saved on the device and may require you to reauthenticate payment methods or Google Accounts. Treat that as a later troubleshooting step, not the first fix. Why an update may not happen immediately
Google’s consumer app-update guide does not promise a fixed time by which every app update will install. For managed devices, Google separately describes update checks and delays caused by device constraints, queued updates, gradual app releases, and pending installs. That managed-device guidance is not a guaranteed schedule for personal phones; it does show why an update can be delayed even when updates are configured.
