Play Points suit Android users who already spend on eligible Google Play purchases; Google Opinion Rewards suits eligible users willing to answer occasional surveys for Play credit. Neither is a cash-earning program, and neither is universally better. Your country, existing Play spending, survey availability and how you want to use rewards determine the better fit.
How do the two programs work?
| Program | How you earn | What you receive | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Play Points | Points on eligible Google Play purchases, such as apps, games, in-app purchases and subscriptions. Selected offers may also include featured free apps. | Points can be redeemed for Google Play credit or special items in apps and games. | Availability and earning rates vary by country. Points cannot be purchased, transferred or converted to cash. Changing your billing country causes you to lose points and your level. |
| Google Opinion Rewards | Answer market-research surveys when they are offered to you. | Google Play credit on Android. | Survey availability and credit amounts vary. Each credit expires one year after it is earned. |
Google Play Help describes Play Points as a reward for eligible Play activity, while Google Opinion Rewards Help explains that survey frequency and rewards vary. The programs use different units: Play Points are not equivalent to a fixed amount of Opinion Rewards credit.

Which program is better for your situation?
Choose Play Points if you already buy things on Google Play
Play Points are the more direct loyalty reward if you make eligible purchases anyway. Treat any points as a return on spending you already intended to do, not a reason to buy something you do not need. Check the offers and earning rate available in your country, since both can vary.

Opinion Rewards can earn Play credit without requiring you to make a purchase, provided the program is available for your Google Account country and you qualify. Surveys are not guaranteed on a schedule: Google says their frequency may vary and you do not have to answer every survey you receive. Do not plan on a particular number of surveys or a steady monthly amount.

Use both if you are eligible and both fit
They are different earning mechanisms, not mutually exclusive subscriptions. You may be able to collect Play Points from eligible purchases and separately receive Opinion Rewards credit from surveys. Whether that combination is useful depends on your location and habits.
How much can you earn?
There is no supported universal comparison of total value. The amount of Play Points depends on eligible spending and the country-specific program terms; Opinion Rewards credit depends on which surveys you receive and complete. Google’s official help materials do not establish a representative monthly earning total or typical survey frequency.

The US Google Play app listing displayed a maximum of up to $1.00 per completed survey when accessed on October 3, 2026. That is a listing example, not typical pay or a guarantee; the actual credit varies with survey length and question count. Do not compare that US example with local Play Points rates as though it applied in every country.

Check availability and account country first
Google Opinion Rewards’ Android availability page listed 39 countries when accessed on October 3, 2026; that count can change. Google’s current Android help page says eligible users must be over 18. The Google Account country determines survey eligibility and reward currency. Google says matching it to your Google Play country avoids currency mismatches when redeeming credit.

Play Points
Play Points cannot be cashed out or transferred. Google says changing your billing country forfeits your points and level. They are therefore a poor fit if you expect to need a cash reward or anticipate changing billing country.

A practical way to decide
- Confirm local eligibility. Check whether Play Points and Opinion Rewards are available for your country and Google Account.
- Look at your normal Play spending. If you already make eligible purchases, assess Play Points against that spending; do not add purchases just to earn points.
- Decide whether surveys suit you. Opinion Rewards requires answering surveys when offered, with no reliable schedule or promised monthly total.
- Compare what you can actually use. Play Points may be redeemed for Play credit or certain app and game items; Opinion Rewards provides Play credit on Android. Neither is cash.
- Account for expiration and travel or moves. Opinion Rewards credit has a one-year expiration; changing billing country forfeits Play Points and level.
