Google’s Pixel 4-era Motion Sense is the clearest example of a Pixel feature that disappeared before its idea had much time to develop: it let owners use hand gestures and proximity to control everyday tasks without touching the phone. Active Edge is another plausible candidate, but the title’s promised third feature cannot be identified from the available documentation. That uncertainty matters: the evidence supports a look at what Pixel features did, not a definitive list of three.
What the title can—and cannot—identify
Google’s official Pixel 4 announcement and support documentation establish Motion Sense, powered by Soli radar, as a real Pixel feature. Secondary coverage also identifies Active Edge as a discontinued Pixel squeeze gesture. The sources available here do not establish which third feature the title intends, so naming one as fact would be guesswork.

HiLight appears on Google’s current Pixel hardware specifications page, but that reference alone does not explain its behavior, availability across models, or whether it replaces any older feature. It is therefore not possible to make a meaningful feature-for-feature comparison between HiLight and the discontinued functions below.
Motion Sense: control a Pixel 4 without touching it
What it did
Google introduced Pixel 4 as the first device with Soli, its radar technology, powering Motion Sense. Google said users could wave to skip songs, snooze alarms, and silence calls. The Pixel Phone Help guide to controlling a Pixel without touching it also describes the phone recognizing when someone is nearby.

Google’s technical account of Soli in Pixel 4 describes proximity interactions intended to make other actions feel more responsive: the phone could prepare face unlock as a user reached for it, lower an alarm’s volume as the user approached, and switch off the display when the user was no longer nearby.
What it required and what Google said about privacy
Motion Sense was tied to Soli radar in Pixel 4, rather than being only a software gesture feature that any Pixel could enable. Google said Soli sensor data was processed on the phone and not saved or shared with other Google services. Google Support states, “Sensor signal data isn’t sent to Google.” These are Google’s descriptions of its system, not independent audit findings.

What the evidence does not show
Google’s research account says its machine-learning models were trained on millions of gestures recorded from thousands of Google volunteers. That is a development-data figure, not a measure of how many customers used Motion Sense, how accurately it worked in ordinary conditions, or how popular it was.

Nor do they establish a current Pixel feature as a direct replacement for its gesture or proximity functions.
Active Edge: a plausible second feature, with a less certain record
Active Edge let a user squeeze the sides of a Pixel to trigger Assistant, according to 9to5Google’s 2022 feature discussion. That article associates the function with Pixel 2, Pixel 3, and Pixel 4, and notes its absence from later models. Because the source is secondary, treat that model timeline as reported rather than as a claim confirmed here by Google’s specifications.
Unlike Motion Sense, Active Edge did not rely on the Soli radar system described above; its defining interaction was squeezing the phone’s sides. The source available for this article does not provide enough detail to compare its privacy or accessibility trade-offs with Motion Sense, or to identify a current Pixel feature that serves the same role.

Why a confident list of three would mislead
Google’s Pixel 3 announcement documents camera features including Top Shot and a selective-color Photos effect, but that does not establish either as a discontinued feature intended by this title. Treating one as the missing third item would turn historical context into an unsupported identification. For now, Motion Sense is documented, Active Edge is plausible on secondary reporting, and the third feature remains unspecified.
