The base Google Pixel 11 adds a 5× telephoto camera, starts with twice the storage of the base Pixel 9, and supports newer wireless charging. Their listed displays are the same size and resolution, and both have 12GB of RAM. At launch in the US, the Pixel 11 started $100 higher—but that historical gap is not a current price comparison.
Google Pixel 9 vs Pixel 11: specifications
The figures below are Google’s published specifications for the base models, not the Pro, Pro XL, Fold, or a-series phones. Google’s hardware specifications lists both generations.

Charging figures depend on compatible equipment and conditions. Google says the Pixel 11 wired-charging requirement is sold separately. The specifications list different display brightness ceilings, but brightness ratings alone do not establish which screen will look better in every setting.
What actually changes between the phones?
Pixel 11 adds a dedicated 5× telephoto camera
The clearest camera hardware distinction is the Pixel 11’s 10.8MP 5× telephoto lens, which adds a dedicated optical zoom perspective to its rear camera system. The Pixel 9 instead has a 48MP ultrawide camera, compared with the Pixel 11’s 13MP ultrawide. Megapixel counts by themselves do not show which phone produces better photos; the published specifications do not establish a direct image-quality comparison.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Pixel 11 starts at 256GB, not 128GB
Both phones list 12GB of RAM, but their storage choices differ. Pixel 9 is listed at 128GB or 256GB, while Pixel 11 is listed at 256GB or 512GB. That makes the Pixel 11’s entry configuration a better match for a 256GB Pixel 9 than for its lower-storage option.
Battery capacity and charging are higher on the newer model
Google lists a typical 4,985mAh battery for Pixel 11 and 4,700mAh for Pixel 9. The higher listed capacity does not translate into a guaranteed runtime for an individual: usage, settings, signal conditions, and other factors affect battery life. Pixel 11 also supports up to 25W Qi2.2-certified wireless charging through Pixelsnap. Its wired claim of up to 55% in about 30 minutes requires a 30W USB-C PPS charger or higher, sold separately.

- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
A newer Tensor generation is not a measured speed advantage
Google lists Tensor G4 for Pixel 9 and Tensor G6 for Pixel 11. That establishes a generation change, not a particular performance gain. The available official specifications and launch materials do not provide an independent, direct head-to-head benchmark, so they do not support a percentage claim about speed, efficiency, or AI performance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow much more did Pixel 11 cost at launch?
Google announced US starting prices of $799 for Pixel 9 in 2024 and $899 for Pixel 11 in 2026. The difference between those launch starting prices is $100, or 12.5% of Pixel 9’s $799 starting price. Google’s announcements establish historical launch prices, not what either phone costs today: Pixel 9 launch announcement and Pixel 11 launch announcement.

- Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]

Do not treat that $100 as a current like-for-like price gap. Retail offers, storage tier, condition, carrier status, trade-ins, geography, and purchase date can all change the amount paid. Compare current listings for the same storage and condition before deciding.
Which phone makes more sense for you?
Choose Pixel 11 if its specific additions matter
- You want a dedicated 5× telephoto camera rather than relying on a dual-camera system.
- You want at least 256GB of storage and are comparing against the Pixel 9’s entry configuration.
- You expect to use Pixelsnap Qi2.2 wireless charging or can supply the compatible USB-C PPS charger for the stated wired-charging speed.
Pixel 9 may be enough if the newer hardware solves no problem for you
- Your current Pixel 9 meets your storage and camera needs.
- You do not need a dedicated telephoto lens or the Pixel 11’s charging features.
- A current, like-for-like offer makes the older phone more attractive for your budget. The launch-price difference alone cannot answer this, because it is not a live retail comparison.
How long are both phones supported?
Google states a seven-year update period for both generations. For Pixel 9, Google says the period begins with first availability in the US Google Store; Pixel 11’s listed support includes OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates. The seven-year periods do not begin at the same time, and the statement does not mean that both phones will receive identical features or reach support milestones on the same date.
Google’s Pixel 11 announcement said the phones were on shelves by August 25, 2026. Prices and feature availability may differ by region, so the US launch-price comparison should not be read as a global price claim.
