The Pixel 8 Pro is the larger phone and lists a dedicated 5× optical telephoto camera; the iPhone 16 is more compact and runs iOS. Their processor and battery figures come from different platforms and measurement methods, so specs alone do not establish an overall winner. Price depends on matching country, storage, condition, seller and date: the $649 Pixel listing checked in the US was for a refurbished 128GB model, not a like-for-like new-phone comparison.

Which phone has the better screen size?
The Pixel 8 Pro’s 6.7-inch display gives more screen area, which may suit reading, video and other tasks where a larger view is useful. The iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch display makes it the more compact option for people who prioritize a smaller phone. The Pixel lists a 1–120Hz refresh rate; the supplied iPhone specifications do not establish an equivalent refresh-rate figure. Resolution and size alone do not determine perceived display quality.

Does the Pixel 8 Pro have a better camera?
On the listed camera hardware, the Pixel 8 Pro has more long-range reach: its rear system includes a dedicated telephoto camera with 5× optical zoom. The iPhone 16 has a dual-camera system, with a main camera that supports 2× optical-quality framing. That difference can matter when framing distant subjects, but camera specifications do not prove which phone produces better photos overall; no comparable independent camera testing is established here.

How do performance and battery claims compare?
The Pixel uses Google Tensor G3, while the iPhone 16 uses Apple A18. These are different processor families, and the cited specifications provide no comparable benchmark result. Choose based on your actual apps and platform preference rather than inferring a performance winner from chip names.
Battery figures are also not a direct contest. Google lists a 5,050mAh capacity and “24+ hour battery life”; Apple lists up to 22 hours of video playback and up to 18 hours of streamed video playback. Capacity and manufacturer playback or battery-life claims are different kinds of metrics and do not establish which phone lasts longer under the same use.

Which phone fits your software and ecosystem?
Choose the Pixel 8 Pro if
- You want Android and Google’s listed features such as Gemini, Circle to Search and Magic Editor.
- You prefer a larger display and a dedicated 5× optical telephoto camera.
Choose the iPhone 16 if
- You prefer iOS, Apple services or continuity with devices and services you already use.
- You want the more compact dimensions or Apple’s listed safety and satellite features, subject to country and feature availability.
What is the price difference?
A fair current price difference cannot be stated from the available listings because they do not establish comparable prices for both phones. On October 7, 2026, Google’s US store displayed a certified refurbished, unlocked 128GB Pixel 8 Pro for $649 and showed an original retail price of $999. The $649 amount is a dated refurbished listing, not a current matched new-phone price or a universal price. A comparable current iPhone 16 price was not established.

What is established about software updates?
Apple’s Ireland product sheet states a minimum of five years of guaranteed operating-system security, corrective and functionality updates for EU model A3287. That is a regional statement tied to a specific model, not a universal global promise. The cited Google comparison material does not establish a Pixel 8 Pro end date, so it does not support a direct update-duration comparison. See Apple’s Ireland iPhone 16 specifications and Google’s comparison page.
