The Pixel 11 Pro XL makes its strongest case with a bright 6.8-inch display and flexible triple-camera system, but it is a measured upgrade rather than a clear value win. Expert Reviews’ 19 August 2026 review listed the 256GB model at £1,279 in the UK and judged it a moderate improvement over its predecessor. That is a dated review price, not a current-price guarantee; whether the phone is worth buying depends on your local price, the RAM configuration you choose and how much you value its screen and cameras.
What is new in the Pixel 11 Pro XL?
The Pixel 11 Pro XL keeps the broad design and display approach of its predecessor while updating its internal hardware and camera features. Google lists the Tensor G6 chip, a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display and a three-camera rear system. Expert Reviews describes the generational change as moderate, noting that the basic build and screen resolution and refresh rate are familiar from the previous model.

Google’s specifications are manufacturer claims; they describe the hardware, not independently measured results. The most meaningful practical changes for buyers are the camera system, charging specifications and the RAM difference between storage options.

Is the display and camera system good?
The display and cameras are the phone’s clearest strengths in the reviews. Expert Reviews praised the screen as bright and sharp and called the cameras excellent. The large LTPO panel’s listed 1–120Hz refresh range and high peak-brightness figure suit a premium phone, though the peak figure is a specification rather than a promise that the screen will sustain that brightness in every setting.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Three rear cameras, with a caveat at extreme magnification
The hardware combines a main camera, an ultrawide with close-focus support and a 5x optical telephoto. That gives the phone more framing options than a single-camera setup and makes it better equipped for distant subjects without relying immediately on heavy digital processing.
Google lists Pro Zoom up to 120x, but maximum reach should not be confused with consistently detailed, natural-looking photographs. TechRadar found the AI rendering at the far end could be hit or miss, including examples with obvious image errors. Treat the maximum figure as an available mode, not a guarantee of usable detail at every distance.
TechRadar also found the HiLight feature limited in its current form. Its positive everyday-performance observations came from a 512GB review sample with 16GB RAM, so they do not establish how the 256GB base configuration performs under the same conditions.

How good is battery life?
Battery results depend on the test. Google lists a 5,115mAh typical battery and claims more than 30 hours of use; it also says 15 minutes of wired charging can provide 15 hours of battery life. Those are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed runtimes. Tom’s Guide measured 14 hours 28 minutes in its continuous 5G web-browsing test. TechRadar reported its own regular-use experience, which is a different kind of observation and cannot be treated as the same benchmark.
Tom’s Guide’s continuous 5G browsing comparison
The figures below are results from Tom’s Guide’s custom continuous 5G web-browsing test, not estimates of typical daily use.
| Phone | Time in Tom’s Guide test |
|---|---|
| Google Pixel 11 Pro XL | 14 hours 28 minutes |
| Google Pixel 10 Pro XL | 14 hours 10 minutes |
| Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra | 16 hours 10 minutes |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | 17 hours 54 minutes |
In that test, the Pixel 11 Pro XL lasted 18 minutes longer than the Pixel 10 Pro XL, while the listed Samsung and Apple rivals lasted longer. Expert Reviews likewise said battery life had improved over the previous model but was still not amazing. These reviews point to some progress, not a decisive battery advantage.

Charging figures are not interchangeable
Google lists wired charging at 45W and Qi2.2 wireless charging up to 25W. Tom’s Guide’s charging table recorded 54% after 30 minutes; that is a publication-specific test result, not a universal charging guarantee. Actual charging can vary with the charger, cable, temperature, battery state and settings.
Which storage and RAM configuration should you choose?
Configuration matters because the base model has less RAM than the larger-storage versions. Google lists 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, and 16GB RAM with either 512GB or 1TB storage. Expert Reviews criticized the 12GB base configuration as a reduction from the previous generation’s base RAM.
| Storage | RAM | Expert Reviews’ UK review price (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| 256GB | 12GB | £1,279 |
| 512GB | 16GB | £1,399 |
| 1TB | 16GB | £1,629 |
The prices are those listed in Expert Reviews’ 2026 review and should not be read as current offers. Tom’s Guide described the XL’s US starting price as $1,299 at review time; that is a separate market and publication-era figure, not a direct conversion or a current global price.

Choose 256GB if that capacity suits your photo, video and app library and you are comfortable with 12GB RAM. Consider 512GB if you need more local storage and want the 16GB configuration used in TechRadar’s review sample. The available evidence does not establish that every buyer will notice a performance difference between those RAM configurations.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is performance fast enough for the price?
Everyday responsiveness and top-end performance are different questions. TechRadar described everyday use on its 512GB/16GB sample as smooth. Tom’s Guide reported improved raw CPU benchmark scores over the Pixel 10 Pro XL, but its Geekbench 6 and 3DMark comparisons still placed the phone behind some flagship rivals. Expert Reviews also criticized its speed relative to top competitors.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThose findings do not mean the phone is slow in ordinary use; they mean its premium price does not buy an established performance lead. If sustained CPU or graphics performance is a priority, compare independent results for the exact rival models and test conditions rather than relying on the processor name alone.

Is the Pixel 11 Pro XL worth buying?
It is most persuasive for someone who specifically wants a large, bright Pixel display and the flexibility of wide, ultrawide and optical-telephoto cameras. It is a harder recommendation at a high local price if battery endurance, maximum performance or value per dollar is the priority. Expert Reviews’ £1,279 UK review price and Tom’s Guide’s $1,299 US starting-price reference are historical publication figures; check the price and configuration actually available in your market.
Buy it if
- You want a large, high-resolution display with a manufacturer-listed peak brightness of up to 3,600 nits.
- You will use the main, ultrawide and 5x optical telephoto cameras, rather than buying chiefly for the maximum digital magnification.
- You can get a configuration and local price that make sense for your storage needs.
Think twice if
- You expect the biggest year-over-year change: Expert Reviews characterizes the phone as a moderate improvement, not a redesign.
- You need outstanding battery endurance: Tom’s Guide’s continuous 5G browsing result trailed the two named rivals in its comparison.
- You want top-tier benchmark performance or are concerned about the base model’s 12GB RAM.
Tom’s Guide argued at review time that the older Pixel 10 Pro could be better value. That is a dated recommendation, not a standing verdict: compare current local prices, availability and exact configurations before choosing between generations.
