Its camera resolutions and battery capacity match the Pixel 9a, however, and its headline 30W wired charging requires a separately sold Google 45W charger. The value calculation also depends on price: Google launched the 10a at $499 in the U.S., while Android Central reported higher U.S. prices on October 2, 2026.
What the Pixel 10a changes—and what it keeps
The Pixel 10a launched with Android 16. Its rear cameras are a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide, and Google lists a 13MP front camera. The Pixel 9a has the same rear-camera resolution configuration, so the 10a is not a major camera-hardware leap on the numbers Google publishes.
The distinction is more about features and processing. Google highlights Night Sight and Macro Focus, as well as Camera Coach, which gives shooting guidance, and Auto Best Take, which selects expressions across frames for group photos. These additions may help in particular situations, but they do not change the shared rear-camera resolutions. Google’s descriptions of image quality are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.

TechRadar’s reviewer described the 10a’s camera as flexible but did not consider it a compelling upgrade for an existing 9a owner. That is the reviewer’s assessment rather than a universal rule; the practical value depends on whether the 10a’s added software features matter to you.

What seven years of updates means
Google says the Pixel 10a receives seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates. That is a substantial stated support commitment for someone planning to keep a phone for years. It does not, by itself, establish an exact final update date for each category, so do not treat it as a calendar guarantee beyond Google’s stated period.
The phone launched with Android 16. Google also promotes Gemini and other AI features, but availability can vary with region, language, account and software version; confirm a specific feature’s availability for your circumstances rather than assuming it is universal.

Charging and battery: useful gains, with an adapter caveat
Google lists a 5,100mAh battery, up to 30W wired charging and up to 10W wireless charging for the Pixel 10a. The Pixel 9a is listed at 23W wired and 7.5W wireless, with the same battery capacity. Those are maximum stated rates, not a promise of a particular charge time.
To reach the 10a’s advertised wired maximum, Google specifies use of its separately sold 45W USB-C Power Charger. The phone’s stated wired maximum remains 30W; the adapter’s 45W rating does not mean the phone charges at 45W. Charging speeds can also depend on conditions and equipment.

Google advertises more than 30 hours of battery life and up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver; these are manufacturer claims. TechRadar’s reviewer reported full-day use in testing, an individual review observation rather than a guarantee for every workload.

The Pixel 9a is the key value alternative if it is available for less. Google’s comparison shows the same rear-camera resolutions and battery capacity, while the 10a adds higher listed charging rates and the highlighted camera software features. The 10a’s stated update commitment may also weigh in its favor, but compare current prices and the support remaining on a 9a before deciding.
For someone who already owns a Pixel 9a, the case for upgrading is narrower: the core camera resolutions and battery capacity are shared. A move makes more sense if Camera Coach or Auto Best Take, faster charging, or the newer phone’s support window addresses a specific need. TechRadar likewise judged the 10a not a compelling upgrade for every 9a owner.

Other specifications worth knowing
- Durability: Google lists IP68 resistance and Gorilla Glass 7i cover glass. These are specifications, not a promise that the phone cannot be damaged. Google Store
- Display brightness: Google lists up to 3,000 nits peak brightness, while TechRadar’s specification table gives 2,700 nits and its review discusses its own lab result. Because the figures differ, neither should be presented as an unqualified consensus figure. Google Store · TechRadar review
