Yes. Buffer lists Google Photos as a media integration, so you can browse your Google Photos library and attach a photo or video to a Buffer post. It is a manual media picker, not an automatic publisher. Buffer’s documentation does not describe a native trigger that posts new Google Photos items on its own, and its help material says the cloud-media attachment flow is not available in the Buffer mobile apps, so use the web composer for this step.
How to attach a Google Photos image or video to a Buffer post
- Open Buffer in a desktop browser and start a new post in the web composer.
- Choose the media attachment option. In the list of media providers, select Google Photos. Button labels can change between Buffer releases, so look for the cloud or connected-provider section of the attach menu.
- Complete the authorization prompt when it appears. Buffer routes this connection through Uploadcare, which it uses to access Google Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive.
- Browse your library, select the image or video, and confirm the selection.
- Finish the caption, choose your social profiles, and schedule or queue the post as you normally would.
Team accounts: each person authorizes their own Google Photos
In a Buffer organization with several users, each team member authenticates their own connected storage account. One person’s authorization does not give colleagues access to that person’s personal Google Photos library. If a teammate cannot see the photos you expect, check which Google account that teammate authorized before troubleshooting anything else.

Mobile limitation
Buffer’s help documentation states that the cloud-media attachment feature is not available in its mobile apps. If you normally draft on a phone, plan to attach Google Photos media from a desktop browser and then finish scheduling there or in the app, depending on the post you are working on.
Zapier: automation that starts from another app
Zapier solves a different problem from the media picker. It does not browse your photo library. It connects Buffer to other apps so that an event elsewhere can create or queue Buffer content. Buffer’s Zapier listing describes triggers such as new sent items, drafts, contributions, and ideas, and actions including adding ideas, adding posts, and uploading media. Action availability and channel-specific fields appear in the Zap editor, so confirm them there before building a workflow.

When a Zap makes sense
- A new row in a spreadsheet should become a Buffer idea for later review.
- A form submission should create a Buffer draft for an editor to approve.
- A content calendar update in another tool should add a scheduled post to Buffer.
If you only want to choose a photo you already have, the Google Photos picker is the simpler route, and a Zap adds setup you do not need.
Media in a Zap must be a direct file URL
When a Zap uploads media, the URL must point to a file that Buffer’s downloader can fetch. A link that opens a viewing page in a browser may work for a person and still fail for Buffer. Buffer’s Help Center makes this distinction in its guide to using Zapier with Buffer:

Buffer’s example in that guide uses Google Drive. Google Photos links follow their own format, so do not assume a Drive pattern will work. Test the exact URL with one post before you automate a batch.

Which Buffer setup path to follow
Buffer’s integration page describes two different connection methods: a standard Zapier connection for ordinary Zaps, and a separate MCP client setup with its own authentication steps. Follow the ordinary Zap instructions unless you specifically mean the AI or MCP workflow, because the two paths require different setup.
Choosing between the Google Photos picker and Zapier
| What you need | Google Photos picker in Buffer | Zapier workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Attach a photo you choose by hand | Best fit. Browse the library and attach it in the web composer. | Usually unnecessary unless another app is part of the process. |
| Start a Buffer action when something happens in another app | Not offered. The picker is a manual workflow. | Best fit. Use an app trigger with a Buffer action. |
| Publish new Google Photos items automatically | Not documented by Buffer for Google Photos. | Not documented for Google Photos specifically. Use only if your trigger app supplies a direct, downloadable media URL. |
| Attach media from a phone | Not available in the Buffer mobile apps, according to Buffer’s help documentation. | Depends on Zapier and your connected apps. Do not assume it replaces the desktop picker. |

Buffer states that API and integration posts exceeding a destination’s limit are rejected up front with a clear error. This applies to Zapier-created posts too, so trim the selection before the Zap runs rather than relying on a partial post.
Troubleshooting
- A Zap created a post without the photo. Open the media URL in a private browser window. If it shows a sign-in page, a preview page, or a web page instead of the file, replace it with a direct download URL.
- A Zapier-created post failed. Zapier’s Buffer listing identifies network restrictions, unsupported media, and expired social profile authorization as common causes. Reconnect the social profile in Buffer, then check the media format and count against the network limits above.
- Google Photos does not appear on a phone. The cloud-media picker is not available in the Buffer mobile apps. Switch to the desktop web composer.
- A teammate cannot see the expected photos. Confirm that the teammate authorized their own Google account, not yours.
- The post is rejected for too many images. Reduce the number of attachments to the destination network’s limit, or split the content into separate posts.
Buffer’s help pages and Zapier’s Buffer listing are the authoritative references for current labels, fields, and media rules, and they are the first place to check if a step here no longer matches your screen.
