The right fix depends on whether you’re paying online, paying a bill or merchant through Google Pay, using a RuPay credit card at a UPI QR code, or tapping your phone to pay.
First, identify how you tried to pay
Different payment methods have different requirements. A setting for contactless payments, for example, will not fix an online checkout decline.

- Online checkout: Check that the card is supported for the transaction and that the card details were entered correctly.
- Merchant or biller payment in Google Pay: Google says credit cards can be used for merchant and biller payments, but not peer-to-peer payments such as sending money to friends or family. Google’s card-payment guidance explains this distinction.
- RuPay credit card at a UPI QR code: The merchant must accept RuPay Network credit cards or UPI QR code payments. Google’s Flex help page calls out merchant acceptance as a check.
- Contactless tap-to-pay: Check the phone and contactless settings listed below; these checks apply to tapping, not every kind of card payment.
Check the Flex card status, limit and available credit
Open the Flex area in Google Pay and review the card. Google’s Flex troubleshooting guidance says to check whether the card is blocked, whether you have exceeded the transaction limit, and whether enough available credit remains for the purchase. A blocked or closed card is indicated on the Flex homepage; account status and authorization issues need to be handled by SBI Card.

If the card is blocked, closed, or the available credit or limit does not explain the decline, contact SBI Card rather than repeatedly retrying. Google’s Flex help page lists SBI Card support as 1800 180 1290 and [email protected]; verify current contact details on SBI Card’s official channels before using them.

Check for a card-entry or temporary technical problem
For a general card acceptance error, Google advises confirming that the card is supported and that its details were entered correctly. If Google identifies a technical issue, its help page says: “Try again after 2–4 hours.” That waiting period is a suggestion for a technical problem, not a guarantee or a fix for a bank-side decline. If the issue persists, contact the bank. Google’s card-payment troubleshooting page covers these checks.
For tap-to-pay, verify the phone and card settings
Only use these checks if you are trying to pay by tapping your phone. Google lists the following requirements and settings for contactless payments:

- The phone runs Android 9.0 or higher.
- NFC is turned on.
- A default card is selected for contactless payments.
- The phone has a screen lock.
- For a newly issued card, contactless payments are enabled through the issuer’s app or online banking.
Google also explains that cards may be blocked if a newly issued card is not activated within the stipulated time, or if a card is never used for online or contactless payments within the stipulated time. Know when to contact SBI Card
Google directs cardholders to the issuer for matters such as credit underwriting, card issuance, billing and statements, transaction disputes, fraud, repayment, and other credit-specific questions. SBI Card is also the right contact when a decline appears specific to your account or the card is blocked or closed. Google’s guidance does not provide a complete SBI-specific list of decline codes, so only the issuer can determine the reason for a particular authorization failure.

If the transaction failed but a charge appears, contact SBI Card to ask about its status. Keep the transaction date, amount, merchant name and any error message available for the issuer. Do not share an OTP, PIN, CVV or full card details in public channels.

A quick route to the next step
- Identify the payment method. Distinguish online checkout, a Google Pay merchant or biller payment, RuPay credit card at a UPI QR code, and contactless tap-to-pay.
- Check Flex in Google Pay. Look for a blocked status, a reached transaction limit, or insufficient available credit.
- Check acceptance and details. Confirm the merchant supports the payment type and recheck entered card information.
- Use tap-specific checks only for a tap. Verify Android version, NFC, default card, screen lock and issuer contactless activation.
- Escalate unresolved or account-specific failures to SBI Card. Include transaction details and the displayed error, but keep security credentials private.
