What changed when Nest Secure support ended
Google announced on April 7, 2023 that Nest Secure support would end on April 8, 2024. Google Nest support now says the system no longer connects to cloud services, the Nest app, or the internet. App-based status checks, controls, and alarm-system notifications are no longer available.

Google also warns that Nest Secure will not receive software or security updates and that offline performance may degrade unpredictably. Google Nest support states: “We do not recommend using Nest Secure going forward.” Owners should arrange another security plan rather than rely on the discontinued system.

Google’s original announcement described an ADT Self Setup System or Google Store credit for eligible owners. Google’s support page says eligible users were emailed redemption instructions, but the historical announcement does not establish that the offer is still available. Check your Google or Nest account communications, or contact support about your specific eligibility.

Google’s original announcement described 12 months of free ADT professional alarm monitoring followed by a historical price of $19.99 plus tax per month. Those were details of the announced transition offer, not verified current ADT pricing or proof that the offer can still be redeemed.
What Nest x Yale Lock owners should do
If Nest Guard had been serving as the Wi-Fi bridge for a Nest x Yale Lock, that function ended with Nest Secure support. Google says Nest Connect is the device that can connect the lock to Wi-Fi. Eligible owners were emailed in January 2024 about receiving a Nest Connect at no cost.

The lock keypad still operates the lock while it is offline, but the Nest app cannot operate it over Wi-Fi until connectivity is restored. If you already have a Nest Connect, Google says it may need to be moved closer to the lock.
- Check whether your Nest x Yale Lock is online in the Nest app.
- If it is offline and Nest Guard had been its Wi-Fi bridge, check your account communications about Nest Connect or contact Google Nest support.
- If you already have Nest Connect, try moving it closer to the lock.
- Use the keypad to operate the lock while Wi-Fi app connectivity is unavailable.
Other service and hardware details
Google says the mobile backup service has been discontinued and any subscription would be cancelled by May 20, 2024. Its support page also describes a recycling route for Nest Secure hardware using a postage-paid label from a third-party partner. Check Google Nest support for the applicable instructions and help with remaining questions.

Will I need Nest Connect to keep my Nest x Yale Lock connected to Wi-Fi?
If Nest Guard had been the lock’s Wi-Fi bridge, Nest Connect is needed to restore its Wi-Fi connection. The keypad remains usable when the lock is offline, but Nest app operation over Wi-Fi will not work until connectivity is restored.
