Google appears to be working on filters and sorting tools that could make the Play Store wishlist much easier to manage. Android Authority found the controls in Play Store version 53.5.48-34, but they were not active on the devices checked, so this is evidence of a possible future update—not a confirmed rollout.
What Google may be adding
The apparent update targets a familiar problem: a wishlist that grows faster than anyone can realistically scan. The code found by Android Authority points to category filters for Games, Apps, Books, and Play Pass content. It also includes a sale-status filter and sorting choices for release date, price, rating, and name.

Those controls would turn the wishlist from a single chronological-looking list into something users could query. For example, someone could show only games currently on sale, sort them by rating, or isolate books from installed-app candidates. The teardown did not establish the final design, whether every control will ship, or whether additional options will be added.

Android Authority found the framework during an APK teardown of version 53.5.48-34. The controls were not visible in the live app available to its reporters at publication. APK teardowns can reveal work-in-progress code, but Google can change, delay, limit, or remove such features before a public release.

- Just the app you’re looking for: Millions of apps means millions of ways to get things done, learn something new, and maybe even meet someone special.
There is also no announced launch date. Installing a particular Play Store version therefore does not guarantee that the wishlist tools will appear; many server-side and staged features are enabled independently of the installed APK.
What the wishlist supports today
Google’s official Play Help documentation describes the wishlist as a place to save apps and other digital content to install or buy later. On Android, open it through:

From that screen, you can open an item to buy or install it. Google’s documentation also lists category filters for Games, Apps, Books, and Play Pass, which creates an important gap between the documented feature set and what some users currently see in the interface. The newly discovered work may represent an effort to make those controls consistently available, while adding the sale and multi-field sorting options found in the teardown.

Clearing the list
Google provides a bulk-clear option under Settings > General > Account and device preferences > Clear wishlist. Clearing the wishlist cannot be undone, so use it only when you are certain that the saved items are no longer needed.
Today’s wishlist versus the proposed tools
| Area | Current documented experience | Work found in version 53.5.48-34 |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Google documents wishlist access and category filtering, although the controls are not visible to every user. | Framework discovered in an APK teardown; not enabled for the reporters. |
| Organization | Saved content can be viewed by the documented categories where available. | Category filters plus sale status and sorting by release date, price, rating, or name. |
| Actions | Open entries to buy or install; enable price-drop notifications. | No additional actions were confirmed. |
| Confidence | Based on Google’s published support behavior. | Predictive evidence only; the final feature may differ or never ship. |
Why the change fits Google’s broader Play strategy
The wishlist work arrives as Google emphasizes discovery across Play. In its October 13, 2026 Play announcement, Google highlighted Ask Play for app comparisons, Game Finder and Gamer DNA for personalized game discovery, and Game Playlists for curated collections. Google has not said that those products and the wishlist controls share a launch schedule, but the direction is consistent: help people find, organize, and return to digital content instead of treating the store as a one-time download catalog.

Better wishlist sorting would address the “return” part of that experience. Discovery tools can surface something new; filters and sorting can make the items a user deliberately saved usable again.
What to do while waiting
- Check Play Store > profile picture > Library > Wishlist to see which controls your account currently has.
- Turn on wishlist notifications if price changes matter to your buying decisions.
- Use the existing category views where they appear, and remove obsolete entries individually rather than clearing the entire list.
- Keep the Play Store updated, but do not assume that updating will unlock an unannounced feature.
When will the new tools roll out?
There is no public release date. The only firm timing is that the code was reported on October 13, 2026, in Play Store version 53.5.48-34, with the controls still inactive for the testers. Google could deliver them through a later app update, a server-side switch, a limited experiment, or not at all. Until Google announces availability or the controls appear in your account, treat the feature as preparation rather than a promised upgrade.
