Google’s September 30, 2026 Google Home release notes list improvements to Gemini for Home voice controls, app setup and device controls, camera playback, and automations. The changes mix new conveniences with bug fixes; Google identifies the voice-assistant changes as Early Access, and says features can take time to reach everyone.
What’s included in the Google Home update?
The September 30 entry is a collection of changes across several parts of Google Home, rather than a single feature launch. Google says it releases new capabilities, features, and bug fixes every couple of weeks. The entry does not provide an app version number.

What changed in Gemini for Home voice controls?
Google lists these voice-assistant changes as Gemini for Home Early Access, not as a general-availability claim:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Better handling of background chatter.
- More reliable Find My Phone responses.
- Lower latency for common smart-home, media, alarm, and timer requests.
- Improved language recognition in homes where three languages are commonly spoken.
- More consistent interpretation of written custom commands in Routines.
- A fix for repeated “I didn’t understand” responses after an error during a conversation.
Which Google Home app controls and setup issues were fixed?
- Lights at 0%: Setting a supported light to 0% brightness now sends a power-off command, addressing cases where a bulb could remain faintly illuminated at its minimum setting.
- Device status: Online cameras and doorbells have clearer filled icons and tile colors, while Matter switches show offline status more accurately.
- Favorites and coverings: Google fixed long-press gestures on Favorites tiles and improved how awnings and curtains are mapped.
- Nest setup: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi setup reliability has been improved on iOS and Android. Google says the app can securely cache network credentials on the phone and reuse them when adding another device.
How do you preview a doorbell chime in Google Home?
The app now offers audio previews for standard and festive doorbell chimes before you select a theme. Google says different themes become available at different times during the year. The September 30 release note does not name compatible doorbell models, so it does not establish which devices have the preview option.

Which camera playback fixes apply to Android and iOS?
The listed fixes differ by platform:
- Android: Historical camera playback should be smoother, and an incorrect “Video not available” end screen has been addressed. Google also fixed a video-history loading issue for Walmart Onn cameras.
- iOS: Users can scrub the camera progress bar while playback is paused.
What changed in automation setup?
When creating an automation with a multi-button switch or one of its subdevices, the parent device name could be missing. Google says it fixed the display issue, which should make otherwise similar buttons easier to distinguish.

Google’s release notes caution that features can take time to reach all users. The September 30 entry gives no app version, complete device eligibility list, or guarantee that every listed change has reached every account or device. Droid Life reported that the changelog was briefly posted and then pulled; Google’s current help page now includes the dated entry.
