To create branching in Google Forms, divide the form into sections, then use a Multiple choice or Dropdown question with Go to section based on answer to send each response to the right section. You can also send an answer straight to Submit form. Google describes this feature as “Show questions based on answers.”
How branching works in Google Forms
Branching is configured on an individual question, answer by answer. Each answer can direct a respondent to a section, or end the form. Sections divide a form into separate pages, so respondents see the questions in the section they reach rather than every section in sequence. Google Docs Editors Help says, “You can set up a survey so that people only see certain sections based on their answers.” Google’s branching help explains the routing controls, and the Google Workspace Learning Center guide explains how sections work.

Set up sections for each path

Open the form in Google Forms and add a section for each distinct set of questions respondents may need. Google says each section starts on a new page. See Create your first form in Google Forms for section setup.

Give the sections clear names and add the questions that belong in each path. For example, a form could use a first section to ask whether someone is a new or returning customer, then have a separate section for each group. This is an example of how to organize a form, not a required layout.

Add a routing question at the point where respondents should be sent down different paths. Choose Multiple choice or Dropdown; Google documents these as the question types that support answer-based section routing. Google Docs Editors Help
Route each answer to a section or end the form

On the routing question, open the More menu and choose Go to section based on answer.

Use the destination control beside each answer to select the section that answer should lead to. Choose a section containing the follow-up questions appropriate for that response.

If a particular answer should end the respondent’s journey, select Submit form for that answer instead of a section.

Set what happens at the end of each section
Routing does not stop at the question: the end of each section also controls where a respondent goes next. Review the section-ending setting at the bottom of every section and choose the intended next section or submission behavior. A section can continue to the next one, go to another section, or submit the form. Check these endings as well as the answer destinations so that respondents do not unintentionally pass through sections meant for another path. Google Docs Editors Help

Preview and check the routes
Before sharing the form, preview it and try each answer on the routing question. Confirm that each choice reaches the right follow-up section and that the section ending leads to the expected next step or submission. This is a practical check of your configuration; Google’s setup instructions describe the routing controls but do not prescribe a complete testing procedure.

Keep the form within the editor limits
