Google Cloud’s Generative AI Leader certification is designed for people in any job role, with or without hands-on technical experience. The most reliable preparation is to follow Google’s current exam guide, learning path and study guide, then use its sample questions to get familiar with the format—not to predict whether you will pass.
What the Google Cloud Generative AI Leader exam covers
The credential assesses conceptual understanding of generative AI, Google Cloud’s generative AI offerings, ways to improve model outputs, and business strategies for successful solutions. Google publishes four domains and approximate weights:

| Exam domain | Approximate weight | What to focus on |
|---|---|---|
| Fundamentals of generative AI | About 30% | Core concepts and how generative AI fits into business use cases. |
| Google Cloud’s generative AI offerings | About 35% | Google Cloud products and services relevant to generative AI. |
| Techniques to improve generative AI model output | About 20% | Ways to improve the quality and usefulness of model outputs. |
| Business strategies for a successful gen AI solution | About 15% | Connecting use cases to responsible, successful business adoption. |
The weights are approximate and were published in Google Cloud’s launch announcement. Treat them as a way to allocate review time, not a promise of the exact question mix. Use the current exam guide for the examinable topic list.

How to prepare for the Google Cloud Generative AI Leader exam
- Start with the exam guide. Read the current Google Cloud exam guide and turn its topic list into a checklist. Mark what you can explain clearly in business language and what needs more review.
- Follow the official learning path. Google Skills currently lists five activities in its Generative AI Leader path. The catalog describes on-demand learning and practical exposure to Google generative AI products; course names and contents can change. Google’s launch article described the path as no-cost, but check current access and account requirements.
- Use the study guide to structure review. Google describes its study guide as a starting point, not an exhaustive source. Use it alongside the exam guide rather than as a substitute for the official topic list.
- Give more review time to the largest domains. The published approximate weights put Google Cloud offerings and fundamentals above the other two domains. Review all four, and use the topic checklist—not the percentages alone—to decide what still needs work.
- Try the sample questions. Use Google’s certification page to access the sample questions and get used to their style. Note topics that expose gaps, then return to the guide or learning materials.
- Verify logistics before scheduling. Check the current certification page for the fee, available languages, delivery options and exam terms before booking.
Are the sample questions enough to tell whether you’re ready?
No. Google says the sample questions do not cover the full range or difficulty of exam questions and are not predictive of your exam result. They are untimed and can be repeated without limit, so use them for format familiarization and topic review—not as a readiness score or pass guarantee.
