Keyboard: use the T shortcut (web)
On the Google Calendar web interface, many users rely on a T shortcut to jump to Today. If your browser focus is inside the calendar grid, press T to return to the current date.
If the shortcut doesn’t work, click into the calendar area once (so focus is correct) and try again.
Screen readers: confirm the target date

If the date shown on the Today button doesn’t match your expectation, it’s usually one of these issues: time zone mismatch, locale formatting, or an edge case around midnight.
Time zone mismatch (most common)
Google Calendar’s “today” is determined by the calendar’s effective time zone. If your device time zone changed (travel, travel mode, carrier updates), the app might be showing Today in Google’s time zone rather than yours.
Locale and date formatting
The button may display the date in a localized format (for example, 9 May vs May 9). That’s normal, but it can look “wrong” if you’re reading it as a different format.
Crossing midnight
If you’re checking around midnight—especially across time zones—the label on Today can change while your device still shows a different date momentarily.

Troubleshooting: Today button doesn’t behave like expected
Below are practical fixes when the button isn’t jumping you to the current day, or it looks stuck.
1) Confirm your calendar time zone
On the web, time zone settings are controlled from Google Calendar settings. If you travel, this is the first place to check.
- Go to Google Calendar on the web.
- Click Settings (gear icon) and open Settings.
- Find the Time zone setting.
- Set it to the correct time zone (or choose a mobile-compatible option if available).
On mobile, the app typically follows the device time zone unless you’ve configured otherwise. Re-check device time zone if the label is consistently “off.”
2) Hard refresh the web UI
If the button label didn’t update after an app update or network hiccup, refresh the UI.
- Try Ctrl+R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+R (Mac).
- If that doesn’t help, do a hard refresh (browser dependent).
3) Clear cache/cookies for calendar.google.com
Corrupted session data can cause parts of the Google Calendar interface to render incorrectly. If only Calendar is misbehaving, limit the action to calendar-related storage.
In most browsers, you can clear site data for calendar.google.com (or clear all site data for Google Calendar temporarily) and reload.
4) Update the Google Calendar app

On mobile, if sync is failing, the calendar’s “current date context” may not refresh. Force-close the app and reopen it—or sign out and sign in again if sync remains broken.

What you can and can’t change
For most users, this update is a UI/UX change controlled by Google Calendar. You generally can’t “turn off” the date display on the Today button without using a workaround like switching views, different devices, or browser versions.
If you’re trying to revert to the previous label style, the realistic options are:
