Google is reported to be increasing the Google Ads API release cadence to two releases a month starting with v26, while retaining four major releases per year. The cadence and communications changes were reported by PPC Land on October 13, 2026, citing a Google Ads Developer Blog post dated October 12. The original Google announcement was not available in the sources reviewed here, so those details and Google’s stated rationale are attributed to PPC Land. What changes with Google Ads API v26?
According to PPC Land’s October 13, 2026 report, Google plans to issue two Ads API releases per month beginning with v26, with four major releases annually and minor releases between them. The report says the sunset schedule will not change.

Does twice-monthly mean twice as many breaking changes?
No such conclusion follows from the release count. Google’s versioning documentation says minor versions introduce only backward-compatible changes. They update the existing major endpoint in place, so adopting a minor release does not require changing the version in the endpoint path. However, a client library must contain the definitions for newly added fields or features before an application can use them.
Major releases can include breaking changes. When Google releases a new major version, earlier major versions become deprecated, but calls to them continue to work until their sunset date. At sunset, Google disables that version’s endpoint and calls to it fail. The distinction to track is therefore major versus minor—not simply the number of releases published.

What the cadence means for API-connected teams
More frequent releases can make new functionality available sooner, but teams should not assume that every release requires a migration or that their client library has already incorporated every new definition. A useful maintenance routine is to connect each release to the integration’s actual dependencies and the version it calls.

Google recommends keeping the API contact email current and following its announcements and release notes.
- Classify each release. Determine whether it is a minor release under the current major version or a new major version. For a minor release, check whether the client library and your application support any new fields or features you want to adopt. For a major version, review the documented breaking changes and plan any required code updates.
- Check the endpoint version and sunset date. Use Google’s release and sunset schedule to confirm which version your integration calls and how much time remains before that endpoint is disabled.
- Plan migration work around your own integration. The available reporting does not quantify a workload increase. Assess monitoring, testing, and client-library update needs based on the features your integration uses and the changes documented for each release.
How to read the release and sunset schedule
Google’s schedule presents future release and sunset dates as projected, not guaranteed; dates can change. In the English schedule snapshot cited for this article, v26 is projected for October 2026 with a November 2027 sunset, and v26.1 is listed as an optional November 2026 release. Those are schedule entries, not fixed commitments, and should be checked against the live schedule before migration planning.

Minor versions share the sunset date of their parent major version. An increased number of minor releases therefore does not, by itself, establish that the parent major will sunset sooner. Check the current schedule for the dates that apply to the version your software actually uses.
