Choose GoDaddy Node.js Hosting if your app fits its documented Node.js 22 deployment workflow and you want GoDaddy to handle the hosting platform and publishing steps. Choose a VPS if you need root access, control over the operating system or server configuration, and can manage those responsibilities yourself—or have a managed service that covers them. One important distinction: GoDaddy’s private preview is not a live deployment; publishing requires an eligible active Web Hosting plan and an available app slot.
How the two hosting options differ
These options put control in different places. GoDaddy Node.js Hosting is a productized application deployment workflow: you provide an app, and GoDaddy describes detecting its framework and handling dependencies and deployment. A VPS is a virtual server: you choose and configure the software stack, with root access to system settings and files.

When GoDaddy Node.js Hosting is the better fit
Your app matches the documented deployment workflow
GoDaddy says its Node.js hosting runs apps on Node.js 22 and accepts a ZIP upload or a GitHub repository. It lists React, Vue, Next.js, Nuxt, Remix, Express, Fastify and Nest, and says it detects frameworks and installs dependencies. The product page also says its workflow supports private previews and publication to a custom domain with SSL, a CDN and a web application firewall; those are GoDaddy’s product claims, not a head-to-head independent test. What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For an app using a listed framework and a compatible runtime, this can avoid provisioning a server and maintaining its operating system. GoDaddy’s FAQ says users do not need Docker, server or command-line knowledge for this documented workflow. That assurance applies to the described product path, not every possible Node.js application or deployment architecture.

You understand preview and publication are separate
A private preview lets you inspect an app without making it a production-published app. GoDaddy’s developer walkthrough separates the preview and publish states, and explains that an app must be attached to a Web Hosting subscription before publication. The documented flow is to create the app, upload a ZIP, attach the subscription, deploy, check completion and confirm published status. GoDaddy Node.js deployment documentation
GoDaddy says a private preview can be started free, but publishing requires an eligible active Web Hosting plan and an open app slot. Its indexed storefront listed one published app for Economy, ten for Deluxe and 25 for Ultimate when checked on October 4, 2026. Those allowances can change and should be verified on the current local storefront before purchase. GoDaddy Node.js Hosting

When a VPS is the better fit
You need control below the application layer
Choose a VPS when the app depends on root access, operating-system choices, system packages or server settings that the Node.js hosting workflow does not document. GoDaddy describes VPS customers as able to install applications and alter system files and settings. That flexibility also means server-level changes are your responsibility and can affect the running environment. GoDaddy VPS capabilities

GoDaddy’s UK storefront, as indexed on October 4, 2026, listed configurations spanning 1–32 vCPU, 2–128 GB RAM and 40 GB–1.5 TB NVMe storage, with Linux distributions and Windows Server among the OS choices and optional control panels. These are that storefront’s listed configurations, not a universal offering or a promise that every allocation is available to every app. VPS setup guide and UK VPS storefront

You can take on server administration—or pay for defined help
GoDaddy says self-managed VPS requires advanced technical knowledge, including basic Linux and command-line skills. Managed VPS support may help with server tasks, but the precise management level and inclusions depend on the offer; check the current plan terms to confirm that the work you need is covered. What to verify before choosing
- Runtime and build: Check whether Node.js 22 and GoDaddy’s documented build workflow support your app’s framework, dependencies and deployment requirements.
- Server-specific needs: If you rely on persistent background workers, uncommon ports, native dependencies, a specific Node version, custom process management, or an unusual database or network design, ask GoDaddy whether that exact requirement is supported. The product descriptions do not settle compatibility for every such case.
- Publishing eligibility: Confirm that your active Web Hosting plan is eligible and has an available app slot; a successful private preview alone does not provide live publication.
- VPS management: Decide who will configure, secure and maintain the operating system and software. If you expect GoDaddy to do server work, check the exact managed-service scope rather than assuming it includes all administration.
- Total plan terms: Compare current local prices, renewal terms, resource limits, app-slot allowances and commitment lengths. Neither provider’s feature descriptions establish a universal price or performance winner.
A practical decision rule
- Pick Node.js Hosting if your app fits Node.js 22 and the documented framework workflow, you prefer a publishing-focused interface, and the required eligible plan and app slot suit your needs.
- Pick a VPS if you need root-level control, a selected OS, or server configuration beyond the managed application workflow—and you can handle administration or have purchased support that covers it.
- Pause and confirm compatibility if the app depends on runtime or infrastructure details not established by the product pages. Get confirmation for the exact requirement before committing.
GoDaddy’s feature pages describe capabilities, not a controlled comparison of speed, security or total cost. The right choice follows from the app’s deployment requirements and the operational responsibility you are willing to own.
