A teardown of Gmail for Android found an “Accomplish this Task” prompt and a companion field for reference links in an unreleased app build. The strings are associated with Gmail’s AI Inbox task workflow, but they do not show that Gmail can complete tasks today: the prompt is not available to users, and no release timing has been reported.
What the teardown found
NerdsChalk reports that its comparison of Gmail for Android builds found the new strings in version v2026.09.14.986636867.Release. The report, updated October 2, 2026, gives the prompt as MSG_AI_INBOX_AGENTIC_FULFILLMENT_TASK_PROMPT = “Accomplish this Task”. It also identifies a companion string: MSG_AI_INBOX_AGENTIC_FULFILLMENT_TASK_PROMPT_REFERENCES = “References: {URLS}”. NerdsChalk’s teardown
The `{URLS}` placeholder indicates that the code includes a references field intended for URLs. The reported strings do not establish which links might appear, how they would be selected, what actions Gmail might take, or what the feature’s interface would look like.
How it relates to Gmail AI Inbox
NerdsChalk places the strings in the context of AI Inbox, which it describes as a way to surface suggested to-dos and help users manage them. The report also notes earlier workflow labels including “Start,” “Help me start,” “Suggest reply,” “Draft Reply,” and “Review.” Against that context, it interprets “Accomplish this Task” as a more direct prompt to fulfill a selected task. That is an interpretation of code strings, not a demonstration that Gmail can carry out a task.

Is the prompt available in Gmail now?
No. NerdsChalk says the prompt is not available to users and that the code does not indicate when it might appear. APK teardowns inspect app code that can precede a public release; features found this way may change, remain behind a server-side flag, or be dropped. The reported build is evidence that the strings were present in that code, not evidence of a launch or rollout. NerdsChalk’s availability caveat
No independent official confirmation of this particular prompt was identified in the report. Its existence, build number, AI Inbox association, and availability status should therefore be understood as NerdsChalk’s reporting rather than a confirmed Gmail announcement. NerdsChalk’s AI Inbox context
