iOS 27 adds two useful capabilities to the Apple Notes workflow: Siri AI can search notes and their contents, while Shortcuts can create and update notes using Markdown. Together, they support four practical ways to find, create, and maintain information. The four are workflows—not four unrelated additions inside the Notes app—and only Siri AI search depends on Apple Intelligence.
1. Find a note—or an answer inside one—with Siri AI
Apple’s Notes guide says Siri AI can search for notes and search within them. That makes it useful when you remember a detail but not the note’s title or where you saved it. Apple’s example is asking Siri to find the note containing a cookie recipe. Apple’s Notes guide labels Siri AI as beta and says it requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device and a supported language; availability also varies by region.

Try asking for the subject or detail you recall rather than searching only for a note title. This is the only one of the four workflows here that requires Apple Intelligence.
2. Create formatted notes with a Shortcut
In iOS 27, Shortcuts’ Create Note action supports Markdown, according to Apple’s iOS 27 feature guide. Markdown lets a Shortcut pass structured text—such as headings and lists—into a new note, rather than treating everything as an undifferentiated block of text.

This is useful when information arrives in a repeatable format and you want a note created from it. You build or adapt a Shortcut for your own inputs; Apple’s documentation establishes Markdown support, not a particular prebuilt Shortcut or automatic workflow.
3. Add or prepend Markdown to a running note
The Shortcuts Append Text to Note action also supports Markdown. Apple says it can append text to a note or prepend it, so a Shortcut can place a new entry at the end or beginning of an existing note while preserving structured formatting.

That can suit a running log: append new material as it arrives, or prepend an update when you want the latest item at the top. The action is part of Shortcuts, not a new Notes-only control.
4. Update a specific section instead of the whole note
Apple says Append Text to Note can target a specific section. That enables a more focused workflow than adding content to a note without regard to its structure: for example, a Shortcut could add an update to the relevant section of a project note, meeting record, or reference document.

This is a practical use of the documented section-targeting behavior, not a separate feature beyond the Shortcuts action. It is most useful when a note has clear sections and you want new material to land in the appropriate one.
What requires Apple Intelligence—and what does not
Siri AI search is subject to Apple Intelligence compatibility, language, and regional availability. Apple’s Notes guide lists Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 or later for an enabled iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 model or later, subject to language and region. Apple’s platform availability announcement describes additional eligible device families. Since eligibility can vary by feature and region, check Apple’s current requirements for your device and language rather than treating any one model list as universal.

Notes also supports audio recording and transcription, but Apple’s current guide does not identify these as new iOS 27 features. It documents transcript search and copying transcript text into a note, as well as Apple Intelligence summaries of recordings. Apple says audio transcription is available on iPhone 12 and later when the device language is one of its supported languages.
