Muted white, black and beige tones keep the range visually restrained; green details mark pockets and compartments, while select pieces—such as a mirrored controller display box—put gaming objects on view. IKEA announced the collection on 26 August 2026 and said it would launch in stores and online from 1 October, with availability varying by market.
How YXSTABY makes room for gaming without taking over the room
IKEA frames YXSTABY around the way gaming shares space with ordinary home life: play may happen alongside dinner, homework and other activities, rather than in a dedicated gaming room. That is the company’s design rationale, not an independently verified finding about how the furniture performs in homes.

The visual approach is deliberately quiet. IKEA describes a palette of white, black and beige, with green accents on pockets, slings and compartments. Those details make the storage legible without turning the whole range into a brightly branded gaming setup. The collection does not simply hide gaming equipment, though: some pieces contain accessories, while display furniture makes controllers and collectibles part of the room’s decor.

| Gaming controller display box | A mirrored display piece for controllers, figurines and other collectibles, rather than concealed storage. | IKEA US describes its black display box as pre-assembled; IKEA’s collection announcement says the mirrored design displays objects from every side. | Gaming lounge chair | A lounge-style seating piece in a subdued beige finish. | IKEA UK lists the chair in Vissle beige. Its name alone does not establish ergonomic support or comfort over long sessions. IKEA UK product listing |
| Thumbstick stool | A seat whose form and grip texture draw on an Xbox controller thumbstick. | IKEA says the stool was developed using Xbox controller 3D design files with Xbox device designers. Designer David Wahl describes a seating curve, stability considerations and a tilting movement; these are design details, not independent safety or ergonomic test results. |
| Gaming side table on castors | Mobile surface and storage, extending the collection’s moveable-furniture idea. | IKEA’s collection material supports this role, but a market-specific product listing is needed to confirm local SKU, specifications and availability. |
Why some pieces store gear and others display it
The collection’s useful distinction is between equipment that benefits from having a nearby place and objects worth showing. Pockets, slings and compartments keep accessories together; the mirrored controller box turns a controller or collectible into a visible feature. That mix makes YXSTABY less about disguising gaming than choosing how prominent each part of a setup should be.

Mobility is another practical thread. Castors on the TV stand—and on the side table, according to IKEA’s collection material—suggest pieces that can be repositioned as a room changes use. Whether that is convenient in a particular home depends on its layout and on product details such as dimensions and load limits, which should be checked in the local listing.
How IKEA and Xbox developed the collection
IKEA says every piece was developed collaboratively by one designer from IKEA and one from Xbox. The thumbstick stool is the most direct expression of that partnership: IKEA says its designers worked from Xbox controller 3D design files with Xbox device designers. Wahl described the challenge as translating a familiar control shape into a seat with an appropriate curve and stability while retaining the thumbstick look.
