Glen Schofield says Krafton’s team told him The Callisto Protocol had to ship in December 2022, despite his belief that the game needed about three and a half more months. He later said he was told the date mattered because of the Korean stock market. Those are Schofield’s recollections, not an independently documented account of Krafton’s decision-making; the available coverage does not include a Krafton response to his allegation.
What Schofield says happened to the release schedule
The Callisto Protocol is a third-person survival-horror game set in a prison on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. Its protagonist, Jacob Lee, is an inmate caught in an outbreak. The game launched on December 2, 2022, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

In an interview account published by PCGamesN on August 7, 2024, Schofield said he wanted “about three and a half more months” to finish the game. He said Krafton’s team told him the title had to ship in December 2022. The reporting describes his account; it does not establish an independently verified schedule proposal from Krafton or show internal records of the decision.

GameSpot reported on August 21, 2025, that he recalled being told: “They told me that the game has to ship in December because of the Korean stock market.” This is his account of what he was told, not confirmation from Krafton that stock-market timing determined the release date.

What he says the schedule affected
Schofield said that four bosses and two enemy types were cut. PCGamesN also reported his account of pandemic-related disruption, staff departures and the costs of accelerating development. These details help explain why he says more time was needed, but they remain attributed to him: the reporting does not provide production documentation independently confirming the cuts or their precise connection to the deadline.
Among the staffing details Schofield gave was that “49 people quit” in 2021. That figure is his reported account of departures, not an independently audited headcount. It should not be read as proof that the release schedule alone caused those employees to leave.

The scale of the project provides some context for the production demands, without resolving the scheduling dispute. In a PlayStation Blog interview published August 23, 2022, Schofield said the game contained “more than 200,000 individual sounds” and that parts of Jacob’s spacesuit had “more than 60 unique sounds.” Those are his production figures, not independently audited counts. They indicate the level of detail he described, but do not establish how much extra development time the game required.

What Schofield says he would change
Asked what he would do differently, Schofield told PCGamesN in 2024: “I would have put my foot down.” He described the response he wished he had given as: “If you want the game to ship, you come and take over the studio.” His comments express his hindsight about how he handled the disagreement; they do not show that he had authority to change the release date unilaterally or that Krafton would have accepted a delay.

- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

How his earlier public comments fit in
A November 11, 2022, interview published by Krafton presents a more positive public account before launch. Schofield said the game was being made by a new team on a new engine for new consoles during the pandemic: “We’re building an all new IP with an all new team, on a new engine, on all new consoles. And on top of it all, we did it during a global pandemic.” He also described Krafton as having supported the studio.
That pre-launch interview and his later criticism reflect different points in time and different subjects. The earlier remarks describe the project and support as he characterized them then; they do not settle whether the final release date was imposed against his wishes. Likewise, his later allegations do not erase the earlier context.

What is and is not established
The reported accounts establish that Schofield has said he wanted more time, that he understood December 2022 to be a fixed target, and that he regrets not resisting more strongly. They also report his explanation of the Korean stock-market rationale and his claims about cuts and production strain. The available sources do not independently document Krafton’s internal reasoning, verify the alleged content cuts, or include a response from Krafton to the specific forced-release claim.
GameSpot’s 2025 report also notes disagreement over the game’s commercial performance: Krafton management said the title missed sales expectations, while Schofield gave a higher estimate of copies sold. Without a consistent, independently sourced figure in the available reporting, those competing claims do not establish a definitive sales total or prove that the release timing caused the outcome.
