Check whether your LG TV is supported
Xfinity’s current activation guide supports LG Smart TVs from 2018 to current and says the app is no longer available on 2017 LG TVs. Its minimum-requirements page enumerates models from 2018 through 2026. That broad range does not guarantee the app appears on every model or in every regional LG store, so check the actual TV’s Content Store before troubleshooting your account. To find the model and software information, Xfinity directs users to Settings > All Settings > Support. On older software, look under Settings > All Settings > General > About This TV. The app needs an internet connection; Xfinity says more than 2 GB of available memory is needed for it to effectively deliver high video quality. That memory figure is a performance requirement, not a universal installation cutoff.

Before you start, connect the TV to the internet and make sure your Xfinity TV and Internet services are installed. Xfinity also says an LG account may need to be created or linked to the TV before you can download apps. Xfinity’s smart-TV activation instructions cover the setup and activation flow.

- Press Home on the LG remote and open the LG Content Store.
- Open Apps & Games, find Xfinity Stream, and select Install.
- When installation finishes, select Launch.
- Follow the on-screen registration steps. When prompted, use the activation code and a browser on a second device to link the TV.
- Sign in with the Xfinity ID and password for the account that has the installed Xfinity services.
Find your way around the app
The app’s main menu includes Live TV, Saved, Browse, Search, and Settings. Use the remote’s directional arrows and OK/select button. Xfinity says the LG Magic Remote’s cursor and wheel functions are not supported in the app; use the arrow keys and press the center of the wheel to make selections. What the LG app can and cannot do
The Xfinity Stream app is included with Xfinity service, with no separate usage charge for customers. Internet charges may apply when streaming off the home network. Most customers with Xfinity TV can stream on up to five devices at once at home, but this is not a guarantee for every account. The available content and features depend on your Xfinity services. - It is not identical to X1. The partner-device app does not include every X1 feature. Xfinity describes X1 as “the best way to watch Xfinity TV”; that is Xfinity’s own characterization, not an independent comparison.
- NOW TV is not available in the LG app. Xfinity says LG TVs are not eligible to stream NOW TV content. Its listed alternatives include Xumo Stream Box, Fire TV, Apple AirPlay, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, and the Stream website. See the NOW TV overview.
- You cannot rent or buy On Demand content directly in the LG app. You can make purchases through Xfinity’s portal or supported app/device routes, then watch rented or purchased content on LG. Details are in Xfinity’s purchase instructions.
If the app is missing or activation fails
The app does not appear in the LG Content Store
- Check the model year and software information using the LG settings paths above. A 2017 TV is outside Xfinity’s current support range.
- Confirm the TV is online and search the LG Content Store on the TV itself. A supported model year does not ensure that every specific model or regional store lists the app.
- If your TV is supported but the app still is not offered, consider another supported route rather than assuming your Xfinity sign-in is the problem.
You cannot register or sign in
- Verify that the TV has internet access and that your Xfinity TV and Internet services are installed.
- Make sure you are using the Xfinity ID for the account with those services, and enter the activation code through the browser-based linking process shown on screen.
- Check the TV’s model and firmware. Xfinity’s partner-device troubleshooting guidance also advises connecting to Xfinity Internet when diagnosing partner-device problems.
Other ways to watch when the native app is not right for you
Use AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad
If you have a compatible Apple mobile device and an LG TV configured as a compatible receiver, start a stream on the iPhone or iPad, choose AirPlay, and select the TV. This avoids installing the native LG app but requires the Apple device and compatible TV setup. Follow Xfinity’s AirPlay instructions.
Use a supported streaming device
Xfinity lists Amazon Fire TV and Xumo Stream Box among supported device families. This is an option if the LG app is unavailable or if you need a route for NOW TV, but check support for the exact device model before relying on it. A separate device is unnecessary when the built-in LG app is available and supports what you want to watch.
