To enter a cheat in The Sims 3, open the cheat console with Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows or Command+Shift+C on Mac, then type a code and press Enter. The community-listed money options are kaching for 1,000 Simoleons, motherlode for 50,000, or familyfunds to set a household’s balance.
Open the cheat console
- Load your household and enter Live Mode.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows, or Command+Shift+C on Mac. An EA Forums community post gives these shortcuts: EA Forums cheat list.
- Type the code you want and press Enter. Close the console with the same keyboard shortcut.
The instructions below come from community references, not a current official EA cheat manual. Their compatibility across every patch, expansion, and platform has not been established.

The code names and listed increments come from the EA Forums community cheat list. For familyfunds, replace the bracketed examples with the household’s surname and target balance. The post also gives a maximum, but that limit is community guidance; confirm it in your installed version rather than treating it as universal.

Enable additional interactions
The EA Forums list includes testingcheatsenabled true as an enabling command for additional interaction cheats. Enter it in the console before trying an interaction that depends on testing cheats. The same community post lists make happy and make motives [static|dynamic]; these are community-listed options, not a guarantee of identical behavior across versions.

Reveal hidden Buy Mode objects
Mod The Sims’ community guide describes buydebug as exposing hidden objects in Buy Mode after testingcheatsenabled true has been entered. Follow its version-aware instructions at Mod The Sims: The Sims 3 Cheats. An EA Forums list also mentions freerealestate for buying homes without the usual funds restriction and moveobjects for moving objects in Build/Buy mode; check your own installation if either command behaves differently than expected.
What to know about compatibility and cheat use
The available cheat references are community-authored and do not provide an official compatibility matrix for expansions, patches, or platforms. If a command is rejected or produces a different result, verify its syntax against a guide for your installed version and expansion set; do not assume instructions for The Sims 4 apply to The Sims 3.
