It began inside GE Capital, became an independent public company, and today combines operations work with technology, data and AI. Here are seven facts that explain what Genpact does, how it developed and how large it is.
1. Genpact began as a GE Capital pilot
Genpact traces its origins to 1997, when a 20-person team began a GE Capital pilot focused on improving back-office process efficiency. Genpact says the initiative grew into GE’s global capability center, developing expertise in the operating processes that support large businesses. Genpact’s account of its journey describes this early history.

2. It spun off from GE and later listed on the NYSE
Genpact became independent from GE in 2005 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2007. Its shares trade under the ticker symbol G. These milestones mark its shift from an internal GE operation to a separately listed company. Genpact’s journey page and its 2025 annual filing provide company-history details.
3. Process improvement remains part of its origin story
Genpact says its early work emphasized Lean Six Sigma and disciplined operating methods. The company credits that foundation with shaping its capabilities in process design, data management and industry knowledge. This history helps explain why its services focus not only on technology, but also on how business processes are designed and operated. Genpact’s journey page outlines this evolution.

4. Its current offer combines operations and technology
Genpact describes its work as enterprise operations and transformation supported by process intelligence, data, artificial intelligence and advanced technology. Its official overview presents the company as working where “applied AI meets context-rich process intelligence,” and says it helps enterprises run and transform mission-critical operations. That is Genpact’s own positioning, rather than an independent assessment of its market standing. Genpact’s company overview explains the offer.
5. Its strategy has moved toward advanced and agentic technology
Genpact describes a progression from its process-focused roots through Lean Digital and work in analytics, automation and AI. The company says it pivoted toward advanced technology in 2024 and launched agentic solutions in 2025. Its current language includes “Agentic Operations company”; its 2025 annual filing describes it as an “agentic and advanced technology solutions company.” These phrases reflect the company’s dated positioning, not a separate industry classification. Genpact’s overview and 2025 annual filing provide context.
6. It operates at a substantial global scale
Genpact’s 2025 annual report says the company had more than 146,500 employees serving clients in more than 35 countries. Genpact’s current company overview also reports more than 800 global clients. These are company-reported figures, and the employee and country counts refer to the 2025 annual report. The annual filing and company overview state these figures.
