To install Google’s Gemini desktop app on Windows 11, download GeminiSetup.exe from Google’s official page at gemini.google/desktop, run the installer, then open Gemini from Start and sign in. Google lists Windows 10 or later, at least 8 GB of RAM, 200 MB of free disk space, stable internet, and an eligible Google Account as requirements.
Check your PC and account first
- Windows: Windows 10 or later is supported, including Windows 11. Google lists support for x64 and ARM64 PCs.
- Memory and storage: Google’s minimums are 8 GB of RAM and 200 MB of free disk space.
- Internet: A stable connection is required.
- Google Account: You can use a personal Google Account. A work or school account needs Gemini access enabled by its administrator.

Availability follows the countries and languages supported by the Gemini app, and individual features may vary; installation does not guarantee that every feature is available to every account.

Download and install Gemini on Windows 11
- On the Windows 11 PC where you want the app, open Google’s official download page: https://gemini.google/desktop/.
- Select the Windows download and save
GeminiSetup.exe. - Open the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen prompts to complete setup.
- Open the Start menu, find Gemini, and launch the app.
- Sign in with your Google Account. If you are using a work or school account and cannot access Gemini, ask your administrator whether access is enabled.
Use Google’s download page rather than an installer from an unfamiliar site. The official Windows app uses a dedicated installer; installing a browser shortcut or progressive web app is not required for this route. Google announced the Windows release on September 10, 2026, in its Windows app announcement.

After setup, press Alt + Space to summon Gemini. Google says the shortcut can be customized in the app’s settings. When an app update is available, Gemini displays a notification and offers a Restart option to apply it, according to Google’s help instructions.

What you can use the app for
Google describes the app as a way to get quick answers, draft text, summarize articles, documents, and web pages, brainstorm, get coding help, and analyze images. Its desktop page also describes access to information from Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Calendar, alongside creative tools. These are examples, not a promise that every capability is enabled for every user: availability can depend on account, location, age, or subscription. Google’s launch announcement notes that some capabilities require a Google AI subscription, can vary by availability, and are for users aged 18 or older.

If installation or access does not work
- The installer will not run: Confirm that the PC is running Windows 10 or later and uses x64 or ARM64 architecture, then check that it meets Google’s memory and free-space minimums.
- The app opens but you cannot sign in: Verify that you are using a Google Account. For a managed work or school account, access must be enabled by the organization’s administrator.
- Your organization blocks Gemini: Google says Workspace access and related tools are governed by the organization’s existing Generative AI settings. Contact the administrator if you are blocked; the Google Workspace announcement explains the administrator controls.
- A feature is missing: Check whether that feature is supported for your country, language, account, age, or subscription. Feature availability can differ even when the desktop app itself is available.
