Google documents Gemini Call for Me as a way for eligible users to call businesses—not as a feature for calling personal contacts. So the idea of Gemini phoning your mom to say you’re running late is not confirmed by Google’s current instructions.
What Gemini Call for Me is documented to do
Google describes the feature as an experimental, gradually available way to handle routine calls to businesses. Documented tasks include checking business hours, product availability or service quotes; booking, confirming or managing appointments and reservations; and navigating phone menus or waiting on hold. Google’s Call for Me help page does not list calls to friends or family as a supported use.

Can Gemini call your mom and say you’re running late?
That specific personal-contact scenario is not established in Google’s feature instructions. The documented business-calling capability should not be taken as confirmation that Gemini can call a saved contact or deliver a personal message. The feature’s availability and scope are also limited, so the title’s example is a possibility implied by its wording, not a confirmed product function.

Google lists these requirements for Call for Me; meeting them does not guarantee access because the rollout is gradual:

- A Pixel 11 with a US SIM; calls can be made only to US phone numbers.
- A Google AI subscription and sign-in to Gemini.
- The Phone by Google Public Beta and the latest Gemini app.
- English set as the device language.
How a supported call works
- Tell Gemini what you need a business to do, including relevant dates, times, preferences and acceptable alternatives.
- Review the proposed phone number and the details Gemini may share. Make any changes you need before proceeding.
- Tap Call for me to start. You can cancel before the business answers.
- Follow the live transcript or audio in the Phone app. Your microphone is muted by default; you can take over, which unmutes you and prompts Gemini to announce the handoff.
- After the call, Google says you’ll receive a notification and can review the result, transcript and recording in the Phone app’s call history.
The call uses your device’s mobile network and phone number, and standard carrier charges apply.
What the other person hears—and what Gemini cannot do
Gemini identifies itself at the start as a Google AI assistant calling on your behalf, and says the call is recorded. This is not documented as an invisible impersonation. Recipients can opt out of automated Gemini calls.

Google prohibits using Call for Me for emergency calls, financial transactions, sharing sensitive financial or personal information, or telemarketing. Daily limits apply, but Google’s reviewed help page does not give a numeric limit.
