Gemini 4 Argon Pricing and Access: What Developers Need to Know

Google has announced Gemini 4 Argon’s API rates and a staged rollout, but no general availability date or introductory-pricing end date. Here’s what developers can safely plan for.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google has not announced a general availability date for Gemini 4 Argon. Its initial rollout is for trusted cyber defenders through Fairwind; broader access is set to begin with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Google’s introductory API rates are $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, but the introductory period’s end date is unspecified. Developers should keep Argon out of production plans until their eligibility, API details, and applicable pricing are confirmed.

How much does Gemini 4 Argon cost?

Google’s September 30, 2026 announcement gives two API price periods. The introductory rates are lower, but Google has not said when they end. The later rates are therefore the safer planning assumption for work that extends beyond a confirmed introductory window.

Usage Introductory price Later announced price What Google specifies
Input tokens $2 per million tokens $4 per million tokens End date for introductory pricing is not stated.
Output tokens $10 per million tokens $20 per million tokens End date for introductory pricing is not stated.
Cached input tokens 95% below the input-token price Not stated The announcement does not give separate later-tier cache pricing or cache storage and duration terms.

These are per-token prices, not a cost per request, task, or project. Actual spend depends on token consumption and the workload. Google’s announcement gives no Argon task-cost benchmark, so the rates alone cannot establish what a particular build will cost. See Google’s Argon announcement for the published prices and qualifications.

Who can access Argon now?

Google says the first cohort is trusted cyber defenders accessing Argon through Fairwind. The company plans to expand access to developers, enterprises, and consumers, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. This is a staged rollout, not a statement that every paid API customer or Ultra subscriber can use Argon today.

A cluster of four MS-S1 MAX units successfully ran a DeepSeek-R1 671B Q4 large model. A reserved cluster power-on interface allows for unified start-up and shutdown

The announcement says Google is gathering feedback and iterating on safeguards during the rollout. It does not name a general availability date, provide a public API model identifier, specify rate limits, or give a country-by-country availability map. Google’s statement that access will expand “as soon as possible” is not a calendar commitment. Check current official API documentation and account eligibility before scheduling integration work.

What should developers prepare before building?

Because the launch announcement leaves key integration details open, preparation should preserve the option to adopt Argon rather than assume it is already available.

BOSGAME Mini PC M5, Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 128GB LPDDR5 RAM, 2TB NVMe SSD
  • Built for Local AI and Advanced Workflows – The BOSGAME M5 AI Mini PC is powered by AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 16 cores, 32 threads, up to 5.1GHz, 50 TOPS NPU performance and up to 126 TOPS total AI performance. It is designed for local AI inference, private AI assistants, coding, data analysis, virtualization, content creation and demanding multitasking while keeping sensitive data on the device.
  • 128GB Unified Memory for Large Models and Creative Projects – M5 includes 128GB LPDDR5X-8000 unified memory, giving the CPU and Radeon 8060S graphics access to a large shared memory pool. This helps support memory-intensive AI workloads, large project files, multiple virtual machines, 3D work, video editing and complex professional applications without the capacity limits of typical 32GB or 64GB mini computers.
  • Radeon 8060S Graphics for Creation, Rendering and Gaming – Integrated Radeon 8060S graphics with 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units delivers high-end visual performance without a separate graphics card. Use the M5 creator workstation for 4K video editing, 3D rendering, CAD, AI image workflows, high-resolution media and modern gaming, while maintaining a compact desktop footprint.
  • 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and Flexible Expansion – A pre-installed 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD provides fast access to models, datasets, media libraries and project files. A second M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 slot allows additional storage expansion, while the SD 4.0 card reader supports efficient photo and video workflows for creators and production teams.
  • Professional Connectivity and Four-Display Support – Dual USB4 ports, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 support up to four displays and resolutions up to 8K@60Hz. WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and 2.5GbE deliver fast networking for cloud collaboration, NAS access and business deployment. Windows 11 Pro, performance-mode switching, Wake-on-LAN and auto power-on support flexible workstation use.
  • Make model selection configurable. Keep the model name and provider settings outside application logic so they can be updated when Google publishes the supported identifier.
  • Do not guess an API model ID. The announcement does not publish one; avoid wiring a guessed name into code or deployment configuration.
  • Budget against the later rates. Use $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens for planning beyond any introductory period unless Google confirms the applicable price window for your account.
  • Estimate from your own usage. Measure expected input, output, and cached-token volumes; the published rates do not predict cost per completed workflow.
  • Confirm access and terms at integration time. Verify that your account and region are eligible, the model is available in the live API, and the price tier and cache terms are the ones that apply.

What workloads does Google say Argon targets?

Google positions Argon for complex, long-running work in software engineering, enterprise knowledge work including legal and finance, cybersecurity defense, and creative writing. Those are the company’s intended use areas, not independent assurances that the model will meet a particular team’s accuracy, security, or performance requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google also describes internal examples involving quantum-algorithm optimization, memory efficiency, and code migration. It reports one quantum algorithm beating a published baseline by 40%; memory work that freed more than 300 TiB after rollout, with estimated total savings of 500 TiB to 1 PiB; and a Rust optimization for libgav1 that was 2.7 times faster than the Rust port it replaced while producing identical video output. These are Google-reported examples, not independent benchmarks or expected results for customer workloads. The company’s announcement is the source for these claims: Introducing Gemini 4 Argon.

What remains unknown before a commitment?

The launch announcement does not establish when introductory prices expire, when general availability begins, which regions will be supported, what API identifier or limits developers should use, or what Argon will cost for a representative task. Those uncertainties matter more than a speculative launch-date forecast: each affects whether an integration can ship, what it will cost, and how much implementation work may need to change.

Until Google publishes or confirms those details, treat Argon as an announced, staged-access model rather than a generally available dependency. The broader rollout sequence and rates may change, so recheck Google’s official documentation at the point of implementation.
