Gears of War: E-Day is not a native PS5 game. A community-made homebrew app reportedly lets owners of jailbroken PS5 consoles stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming, provided they also have the required service access. The app author claims 1080p60 streaming and DualSense support, but reports testing on just one PS5 running system software 13.60; those claims have not been independently verified.
How the PS5 workaround works
The app, called PSBox Cloud Gaming, is described by its author as a native Xbox Cloud Gaming client for jailbroken PS5 consoles. It streams games from the cloud rather than installing or running the Xbox version on the console. In this case, “playable on PS5” means streaming through unofficial homebrew software—not a PS5 port or a listing on the PlayStation Store.

The app author says a Game Pass subscription is required for this client. Separately, Xbox Wire says E-Day cloud gaming is available through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. These are service access routes, not evidence that a PS5 alone—or any unrelated subscription—provides access. Plan eligibility and cloud availability vary, so check the service’s current terms for your region.
What the app author says you need to set it up
RafaelNGP’s October 7, 2026 announcement gives these setup steps. They are the author’s instructions; the package and procedure have not been independently verified.

The post says account information is stored in PPSA99810/account.json and warns users not to share that file. Treat it as sensitive account data. The post does not establish the app’s security properties or address the legal or warranty implications of console modification.
Performance and compatibility: limited evidence
The author claims the client can stream at up to 1080p60, includes sound, and supports using a DualSense as an Xbox controller. The author also reports testing on one PS5 running system software 13.60. That single-device report does not establish compatibility across PS5 hardware revisions or firmware versions, and 1080p60 is a claimed capability—not an independently measured result.

The announcement provides no latency measurements, network-quality testing, broader device sample, or independent reproduction. A streamed game’s responsiveness and image quality depend on the cloud service and connection; the post does not quantify either for this app.

Xbox lists Gears of War: E-Day for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, with an October 6, 2026 release date. The official product listing does not include PS5 as a native platform. Xbox Wire’s October 1, 2026 launch article says cloud gaming is available through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW.

Xbox’s US store listing shows Standard Edition at $69.99 and Premium Edition at $99.99; prices and editions can differ by region and change over time. The same listing says the game is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Buying the Xbox or PC game is distinct from obtaining cloud access, and a purchase does not by itself establish eligibility for the PS5 homebrew method.

Xbox describes E-Day as an origin story set fourteen years before the original Gears of War, following Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges on Sera. The official listing describes a third-person cover shooter with solo play, two-player split-screen on console, online co-op for up to four players, Horde Siege PvE, and Versus PvP.

Xbox Wire also describes a physical Xbox Series X Collector’s Edition with a disc and collectibles, including a 15-inch statue, replica COG tags, and a print; it says stock is limited and availability varies by region. The edition is a collectible, not a requirement for cloud streaming. Xbox Wire also names The Art and Making of Gears of War: E-Day as an optional companion book.
