What multiplayer modes are in Gears of War: E-Day?
The Coalition separates multiplayer into cooperative PvE and competitive PvP. Horde Siege is the co-op mode; Versus contains Team Deathmatch, Conquest, Demolition, and Crucible. Boot Camp and Combat Training offer instruction and practice rather than another competitive playlist. The Coalition’s multiplayer overview describes these launch modes and features.

How does Horde Siege work?
Horde Siege is an evolved wave-survival mode organized into three playlists. The Coalition gives typical durations, not guaranteed match lengths:

Missions can ask a squad to secure an area, calibrate or repair a R.I.G., defend it, and survive a Horde sequence. Players earn shared Energy, and optional secondary objectives can provide rewards. Extraction is the final objective: The Coalition says at least one squad member must get out for the mission to count as completed and for collected Weapon Parts to be kept.

The cited Xbox product description does not state a maximum Horde Siege squad size. Do not treat the number of squads shown in a preview as a player limit.
Which Versus modes are available?
The Coalition lists four core launch modes. Each is 4v4, with equal starting loadouts; weapon mods are disabled, and teams compete to acquire power weapons on the map.

- Conquest: A King of the Hill-style mode in which zones remain active until a team accumulates enough time in them.

- Crucible: Carry a Power Core into a shifting, shrinking zone and hold it to score.
The Coalition names six launch maps: Outpost, Battleship, Park, Precinct, Market, and Skyward. It describes Ranked and Social playlists, with social options including Quickplay and Player vs Bot.

Does the campaign have co-op?
Yes. Xbox says the campaign can be played solo, in two-player split-screen on console, or with up to four players online. Campaign co-op is separate from Horde Siege, which is a multiplayer mode in its own right. Combat Training is also separate and supports four-player co-op. Xbox’s product page lists the campaign options.

Is Gears of War: E-Day crossplay?
Steam advertises cross-platform play and invites across supported platforms. The Coalition’s August 3, 2026 beta FAQ says Steam players do not need a Microsoft or Xbox account just to play on Steam, but must link an Xbox account to send a cross-platform squad invite. That FAQ describes beta-era behavior, so platform pairing and invite requirements may change; follow the current in-game account-linking prompts if they differ.

Xbox lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam. Its product page says online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, and Versus on Xbox require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer; the subscription is sold separately. Xbox lists Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass availability for the game. This console online-multiplayer subscription condition should not be assumed to apply to Steam.
