Gears of War: E-Day’s four documented classes—Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic—are choices for Horde Siege, not Campaign or Versus. What do E-Day classes change?
In Horde Siege, your class determines a starting loadout, a combat bonus, a progression track, and timed-cooldown Tactical Gear. This is a mode-specific system: do not treat these four roles as class picks for Campaign or Versus. Xbox Wire describes Horde Siege as a four-player squad mode. Versus is described separately as 4v4 with common starting weapons and equipment and no weapon mods; the class system described here is for Horde Siege. Which E-Day class should you choose?
- Choose Assault if you want a flexible midrange role, use cover reliably, and help hold an objective against incoming waves.
- Choose Breacher if you want to press into close quarters and create space for the squad while taking advantage of defensive tools during a push.
- Choose Marksman if you prefer precision damage and want your Tactical Gear to tag Locust for teammates as well as yourself.
- Choose Medic if you keep an eye on squad health and want to recover downed allies without giving up the ability to fight.
These suggestions follow the published class kits; they are not based on comparative playtesting. The available official materials do not establish class win rates, pick rates, or a numerical ranking that proves one class is strongest.
Does Horde Siege require a balanced team?
No fixed composition is required. The Coalition says classes are intended to complement one another, but “there is no ‘right’ way to set up a squad,” and it explicitly allows four players to choose the same class. A mix of roles is one way to cover different needs—such as precision, close-range pressure, and recovery—but it is not a proven optimal setup. The developer’s class guidance supports flexibility rather than a mandatory team formula.

How does class progression work?
At launch, each class has 30 levels. Every completed mission earns class XP; progression unlocks loadout weapons and equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and unique Weapon Mods. At key milestones, a class gains base health and damage. Tactical Gear Mods can alter cooldown, range, and effects, so the listed starting kit is not the full set of options available as a class progresses. Is E-Day available now?
As of October 4, 2026, Xbox Wire says E-Day is available in early access, beginning October 1, while the official Xbox product page lists October 6, 2026 as the release date.
