First check where the message appears. A bubble inside the headset is likely an incoming-call or notification pop-up controlled by Gear VR’s Universal menu. An alert on the phone’s regular screen—especially one mentioning discontinued Oculus support or One UI 4—is a different issue, tied to Gear VR software support and compatibility.

A Samsung Members user described a phone-level alert that appeared each time the phone started, quoting: “Due to Oculus ending its technical support, the Gear VR service is no longer available for One UI 4.” That is an individual community report, not evidence that all Gear VR users see the message. If the pop-up appears inside the headset
Open the Gear VR Universal menu and look for its pop-up-message setting for incoming calls and notifications. The device manual says this control turns those in-headset messages on or off. Menu wording and availability may differ with the Oculus service or software version installed, so the setting may not look identical on every headset.

Read and record the complete wording, then note the phone model, Android or One UI version, and when the alert began. This helps distinguish a recurring service notice from headset notifications. An alert that mentions Oculus support ending or One UI 4 points toward the discontinued-service issue described in Samsung materials, rather than a notification bubble generated during headset use.

Android 12 is a compatibility boundary
Samsung’s Korea support page, dated 2019-01-14, says Gear VR cannot be used on Android 12 because that operating system does not include the software required to connect the headset and launch Gear VR apps. This is a platform limitation, not a complete compatibility list for every phone model, region, carrier, or software build. Check support for your specific device rather than assuming that every older Galaxy phone or earlier Android version will work. Samsung Korea support page
Samsung documented service ending in an update notice
In its software update notice for the Galaxy S10 (SM-G973F), Samsung stated: “Gear VR will no longer be available after this update.” The sentence is tied to that software update notice; it should not be treated as a universal notice applying identically to every phone or build. Can disabling a Gear VR app stop the alert?
Some Samsung community users report trying to force stop or disable a Gear VR app, but their results differ; some say the notice returned after restarting. This is an unofficial, device-dependent troubleshooting attempt, not a guaranteed fix. Menus vary by phone, and disabling a system component can affect Gear VR functions. If you consider this route, inspect the app name and the confirmation screen before acting. A community report describes an uninstall flow that appeared to remove Facebook-related apps along with Gear VR components. That is anecdotal, but it is a reason not to confirm a bundled removal without checking what the phone says will be removed. Do not remove unrelated apps as a required Gear VR troubleshooting step. What the pop-up does—and does not—tell you
- An in-headset notification bubble has a documented Universal menu control; changing that setting addresses headset pop-ups, not phone-level support alerts. Gear VR SM-R325 manual
- A phone alert about discontinued support or One UI 4 is a reason to check OS and service compatibility first.
