Games Workshop was seeking a Head of IT on a fixed-term contract described as covering the next two years, with responsibility for global IT, customer technology and major systems change, The Register reported on 5 October 2026. The role was to report to the company’s chief operating officer. The vacancy was reported closed for applications over the weekend before publication, so it should not be treated as currently open.
What the reported Head of IT role covers
The Register quoted the now-closed LinkedIn listing as describing a broad remit: “our core technology estate, information security, major systems change and the technology behind our customer-facing digital platforms, including warhammer.com.” The listing also called for someone able to advise senior management on technology, security, risk and investment, and to anticipate the company’s future technology needs. The original LinkedIn page could not be retrieved directly, so these details are attributed to The Register’s account of the advertisement.

The report does not establish the successful candidate, salary, detailed qualifications, exact contract dates or current vendor arrangements. It describes a two-year fixed-term contract, but does not give calendar start and end dates.
Why ERP is central to the appointment
The appointment comes against a lengthy backdrop of enterprise-systems work. The Register reported in January 2021 that a Microsoft Dynamics-based ERP rollout had missed its earlier 2020 target go-live and that Games Workshop had appointed a new integrator. That is historical context, not evidence of the project’s current vendor, schedule or status.

Games Workshop’s 2026 annual report, for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, says the company’s main financial system continued to be supported by legacy ERP applications. It also records that previously identified audit control deficiencies remained. Separately, the report describes the Systems Improvement Plan (SIP) as “on track with very clear milestones for us all to support and deliver,” as quoted by The Register. These statements indicate ongoing systems work, but do not establish a firm ERP go-live date or that the legacy applications have been replaced.
The reported project history includes online-shopping feature development being affected by project issues in September 2021. In January 2022, The Register reported that Games Workshop had added £500,000 to the project budget. That was a historical budget increase, not the total program cost or a current spending figure. In 2023, the company told investors that completing projects and upgrading systems remained a focus, while progress was taking more time and money, according to The Register’s account.

Business scale behind the technology remit
Games Workshop’s 2026 annual report describes it as a vertically integrated global designer, manufacturer, distributor and seller of miniatures and related products. It reported revenue of £659.7 million for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, compared with £617.5 million for the 52 weeks ended 1 June 2025. The company also reported 598 company-owned stores in 24 countries at the end of the 2025/26 period and 9,100 independent retailers in 71 countries during that period.

The annual report’s description of legacy ERP support and ongoing control deficiencies makes reliable systems change particularly consequential, without proving that the Head of IT role was created for one project alone.

What the public record does not establish
The available reporting does not provide a current total ERP program cost, a confirmed completion or go-live date, the latest status of the Systems Improvement Plan after the July 2026 annual report, or the identity of the successful candidate. The Register’s report says applications had closed by 5 October 2026; later vacancy status is not established here.
