Start with SIGNALIS if what you want most is psychological dread, memory-and-identity themes, puzzles, and scarce supplies. Choose Tormented Souls for fixed-perspective exploration and classic survival-horror structure. If you have not played Silent Hill 2, its remake is another natural next step—but it is a modernized version of the series itself, not an outside alternative.
Which Silent Hill quality do you want more of?
These games overlap with Silent Hill in different ways; none is a one-to-one substitute. Before choosing, decide whether you are looking for psychological or cosmic horror, limited resources, puzzle-led exploration, a fixed camera, or a modern presentation. The recommendations below are strongest on different parts of that mix.

SIGNALIS: choose it for surreal psychological horror
SIGNALIS is the strongest choice here if you want an unsettling story built around identity, memory, and the unknown, alongside puzzles and survival-horror resource management. The PlayStation listing calls it a “tense and melancholic experience of cosmic dread and classic psychological survival horror,” and describes nightmarish creatures and scarce resources. It lists PS4 and PS5, though storefront availability can vary by region.

Barbara Wittmann, co-founder of developer rose-engine, described it as both classic survival horror and a psychological story with cosmic-horror elements. In a developer-authored PlayStation Blog article published 7 July 2022, she also called it “a love letter to the classics of PS1-era survival horror games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill.”

What the survival-horror overlap means
Expect decisions about how to use limited ammunition and health items, what to carry in restricted inventory space, and when to fight or run. Storage boxes give you a place to leave items you cannot carry. Those systems, combined with puzzle solving, make it a fit for players who want pressure and interpretation rather than a direct recreation of Silent Hill. The PlayStation listing identifies it as a one-player game.
Tormented Souls: choose it for fixed-camera exploration
If the appeal of older survival horror is its carefully framed rooms, exploration, puzzles, and deliberate structure, Tormented Souls is the clearest match. Its Steam listing describes a fixed-perspective adventure with modernized controls and classic gameplay. The story follows Caroline Walker as she investigates the disappearance of twin girls at a mansion converted into a hospital.

The listing says the game draws inspiration from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. That makes it relevant for fans seeking classic-style survival horror, but its stated connection is an influence—not a promise that its tone or storytelling reproduces Silent Hill. Steam lists Dual Effect and Abstract Digital as developers, PQube as publisher, and 26 August 2021 as the release date.

If you have not played Silent Hill 2, consider the remake before moving to another series. Konami describes it as a remake of the original, which first released for PlayStation 2 in 2001. Konami’s European listing gives the remake’s release date as 8 October 2024 and lists PlayStation 5 and PC/Steam. Its US listing names PS5, Steam, Epic, and GOG; availability varies by territory and store.

The remake modernizes how the game plays rather than keeping every element unchanged. In an official PlayStation Blog design article, Bloober Team Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart said the goal was to preserve the original’s atmosphere while modernizing gameplay. The remake uses an over-the-shoulder camera and rebuilds combat, so expect a different presentation from the 2001 release.
